Yes I know they are not the literal Devil. I also know Walmart has all the great prices and has become an American way of life. Last year I made a pledge never to go into a Walmart again, and I haven't. They have done one too many things that are just plain wrong. From unfair business practices, to trying to cheat people from benefits they earned. There cash cards are a rip off but it gets Walmart into the banking business. They have no record of checking on items brought in form China except for how much it costs. When they started 'spreading the word' on how to vote to their managers, it was just one more thing that made me okay with my decision .I know there are other companies out there as bad and I when I know about it I try to avoid them as well. Would like to hear feedback on your feelings about Walmart, or companies you might know that are not doing whats right.

Sam is rolling in his grave Im sure. Im not a walmart fan but my mom works there. I hear ALL the stories and hate all their business practices but also have to get the lowest price so our family can live. It's a rock and a hard place for sure.

We don't have a Walmart here, so we don't shop there. When we go to other towns, we shop at K-Mart and Target, not Walmart.

I've not shopped there in 3 years. I know that is just not an option for some people. And sometimes I feel silly for doing it, but it's something that's important to me and my husband and we are blessed enough to be able to shop elsewhere. Target and Kmart also get our business. I agree about Sam rolling in his grave--obviously I didn't know him but what I've heard about him seems like he wouldn't be happy with the way things have turned out. Jaci

I shop at walmart. low prices, yes. I have to get it as cheap as I can. and everything I buy, walmart or not, came from China twaiwan or mexico. Even your american made cars are made in Mexico. They ship the parts down there. To drive an AMERICAN put together car, you have to buy a Toyota..
I cant say I agree with all that walmart does. BUT I can also say that I dont agree with Target, Kmart or others on some of their stuff.
I am not ashamed or feel bad for shopping at walmart. I fiqure that they EMPLOY only americans. thats about as good as it gets nowdays. If I call 1800 walmart I get an american, in BEntonville. Can you say the same for Compaq, HP, Dell, Dishnetwork, and other places? I can say that about my computer. An Everex. I called and got a guy in Lubbock Texas. I asked. LOL
DO I feel like I am selling my soul? NOPE. I feel like I am buying what avalible to me. Are the CD's at Target from the same place as those from Walmart? or do they have their own CD company that is in agreement with all the major record lables to all theirs to be made somewhere else? The toys? can you buy the same tickle me elmo made in China at Kmart that I can buy at walmart? or do just walmarts come from China?

I thought this might bring out a good discussion. I don't believe anyone sells their soul if they shop at Walmart. I just believe Walmart has no soul. I also know Walmart is sometimes the only game in town. (They ran everyone else out) Bottom line: I wanted to hear opinions, which I have. One thing I do believe, once I stopped shopping at Walmart I discovered that they are genius at advertising. Prices you want can be found almost anywhere, most businesses are fighting for your business. It is just you can't always get what you want just when you want them. [Generally American hate that]
As for what you need, it can also be had with some planning. I actually spend less on groceries now after I stopped buying at Walmart Grocery. I do this little protest of mine because I don't want Walmart to be the only game in town. It is also the reason I am trying to change my habits and live as green as possible, (I'm getting better at that with time) It is just my little way of trying to change the world for the better.
It is not just Walmart; I have quit buying other products in the past because I was not comfortable with how the company did business. A global economy is a reality I recognize that point. I built Cadilacs in Linden, NJ way back when and I sold Nissans in Phoinex a few years back. I get how it works. So no dis meant to Walmart shoppers, but Walmart really isn't all they make themselves out to be. Hope more folks chime in, I love a good sharing of opinons.

I can agree with you on most of it. Sometimes however, I AM the American who wants the lowest price right now and as you said, I am forced to go to walmart.
On the other hand, we have a grocery store that has lower prices than walmart BUT they don't have the newer items in stock and I won't buy meat from them (I don't buy meat at walmart either). I have found that by buying just the loss leaders from Albertsons and using coupons, I get a MUCH better deal and am working on sticking with that plan.
Like I said though, if I need electronics or shoes or other items and have not planned ahead.. I am back at walmart..

I say we need more choices! lol..Who knows whats going to happen with this election. As far as groceries-I never go to Walmart, HEB where I am is cheaper-on most stuff. But, I am an organic nut so I do most my shopping at Sun Harvest. I love and totally support their practices of humane treatment of animals in slughter houses (yuk sounds ugly0 as well as organic fruits & veggies. Believe it or not, ther are cheaper than Wally World AND heb! The quality is great as well.

I am completely jealous. I have Price Chopper Aldi and Walmart. I try to avoid walmart for groceries when possible but household stuff? they can't be beat price wise. Those are my choices and even they are a drive. Anything else is too far, that includes and is limited to Target and Wegmans- I have so many options and takes too much gas to get too.... plus after 45 minutes speeding home and swerving through traffic, the ice cream melts, lol. I have never even heard of Fresh and Easy. I want a new grocery store I see why people think Walmart is evil and they do treat their employees like crap . However they keep on working for them and (not all employees but....) I think the low prices get evened out with the incredibly crappy customer service. It seems to be a Walmart epidemic and makes me think many stay working there simply because anyone else would let them go for treating customers like crap.

#533# Hi all. I'm just catching up on some of the forums as my computer was out of commission for a while. Was reading about Wal-mart. I used to work for them too, and I avoid them like the plague. But, I'm fortunate enough to have other choices: I buy my meat through a couple local farmers who operate family businesses as butchers. (Can't get it any fresher than that!). I have family members who have chickens, also a local "egg hatchery" where I can get my eggs for free or next to nothing as long as I bring the box to put them in. I get my milk from another farmer, as well as most cheese. The Amish are quite prominent in this area, and several operate what they call B&B stores (Broken & Bent), where you get anything you need at nearly 80% off. They also have bake shops for breads and other things, and even produce animal feed for some of the other farmers in the area. There are also orchards of all kinds here, so we have fruit and vegetable stands that are open most all year. If I can't buy stuff from them fresh, I buy it frozen at a local discount grocery store (Aldi's is one). Now, I realize not everyone is as lucky as I am to have these options, but regardless of where you are, you need to support the local farmers and economy before buying from these capitalist pig chain stores who charge outrageous prices, regardless of who they are. The last time I checked on meat at Wal-mart, I nearly flipped. I asked the meat clerk when cows and chickens were put on the endangered species list!!! #rolleye0012# We here in the north also enjoy deer meat and squirrel. All you bleeding heart animal lovers, spare me. I am an animal lover as well, and believe they have rights and will not tolerate abuse of any kind. However there is a balance of nature and the good Lord put these creatures on earth for us as food and companions.
All I'm saying is if you are lucky enough to have alternatives and choices, try to support your local economy before lining the pockets of any of these stores! That includes things like, oh say, greeting cards. There's got to be someone in your family or area who make them as a hobby or even a small business. You can find them on the I-net like everything else. Same with candles and other gift ideas. Believe me, the era of the home-made gift is coming back in full force because we are sick and tred of buying things made in China and other places outside the U.S.
Hope I'm not being a pain. Just wanted to share a point of view and some ideas and hopefully some solutions. God Bless!!
Dana
