Living in a small rural area, when we travel to the next town to shop Walmart is the only choice. Kmart was my favorite, but they closed down. But when Walmart did away with layaway that did me. My Christmas shopping will be done at Kmart even though it is quite a trip to go there, I will make the trip.

I think that's part of the problem... walmart is the only choice.... I am SO thankful that I do have choices.. I rarely have to travel to walmart but at the same time there are those things I have to get that I know driving the extra mile will be well worth it.. I don't like it but I get it.

You're right Connie, in that Wal-mart is the only choice a lot of times. What mainstream America doesn't get is....that's what Wal-mart is truly about. Eventually, you'll have NO other choices as they've run them all out of business...I don't think that's what Papa Sam had in mind. Another example of a great idea gone to corporate whore-mongers! (Oops! I just opened my mouth and it fell out....).

How is Wal-Mart any different than any other big corporation that cares about nothing more than profit and taking care of its upper management?
Being in the small rural town that I am, I have to drive to everything. Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, Schnucks, Shop N Save, Dierbergs, you name it, they are all 30 minutes away. I gladly drive that 30 minutes to Wal-Mart to spend less. I have 2 mom & pop stores in my town and, unless they have something on sale I need, I do not go to either. Their prices are ridiculous. I don't care how many people tell me to support our local businesses (I hear it all the time) I refuse to support these 2 stores when they're surely not looking out for me, the consumer.
I shop around all the time and 99% of the time I always end up back at Wal-Mart because of their prices. They became the giant they are today because of their customers. Those very customers were not forced to shop there with a gun to their heads. People shop there for a reason.
Even if I had plenty of money and could afford to shop somewhere other than Wal-Mart, I wouldn't. I'm not the type to spend more on something I can get for less.
