I have been watching this place for awhile and today I was looking at some feedback about them on another board and it was all good. People were reporting an increase in their google accounts. So I signed up. I am going to give it a try with a blog about surveys etc. If you want to start a blog and make some money you can try it out too. The only advantage I can see over having your own blog is that they will have a lot of hits from current members and they claim to be very good at promoting. I don't promote my other blogs which may be why I don't see a lot of hits www.writingup.com?referer=728

Update: I just pulled my adsense acct from writingup. I love the concept but it makes me a little nervous for a couple of reasons. I wrote about the first one at www.katieshugs.blogspot.com and will write about the second reason in a couple of days. In the meantime if you have started an acct here and are dependent on adsense for more than your blog there you might want to give it some serious thought as well. I still love the community there and will probably continue to write but it just makes me a little nervous.

I found out about writingup.com a couple weeks ago, and I was thinking about joining. I'm a little reluctant after reading your experiences, but i think John is working on that problem. I've since learned though that not many people are making money with their blogs, though most members don't seem to mind as they just enjoy writing their journals.

Most of the people who are not making money don't understand the concept. You have to write about things that people are interested in. For instance if you write: "today I took my dog for a walk and then I ate lunch and took a nap" The google ads might show something about dog shows, now how many people are interested enough to click on that ad for dog shows? If you write about your daily trials trying to quick smoking your ads will show different smoking cessation ad's and you will probably get more clicks because there are a LOT of people who want to quit smoking. If you are using your blog to generate money through adsense it is imperative to remember that your content will determine what your ads will be and you want the ads to be something of interest to your readers. So many people believe that as long as they write SOMETHING everyday they will get clicks. That just isn't the case. Make it interesting and they will click!

I never knew how adsense worked....Thanks! So...do you feel if you have a Blog about the same info as your site...then you are somehow competing with yourself?
I'd like to goof around with a Blog idea. I can't think of anything interesting though.

Funny question! No, I don't. I actually use the katieshugs blog to drive traffic to the katieshugs website. The new blog stands alone though and I am already thinking of other ideas! Take a look! I have been working on both blogs over the last couple of days and they have a whole new look. I will be adding some colors next... let me know what you think.. www.katieshugs.blogspot.comwww.reviewtheweb.blogspot.com

I checked out both. How do you KNOW all this stuff? ? I'm going to keep reading so I can become a PRO too! I would love to figure out a way to eventually work from home...but I don't want to do something stupid and blow my whole income tax check on a pipe dream. I think it's best to check out the water before jumping in head first. Thanks so much for all your info!

You are welcome. I don't know a whole lot yet! I learn something new everyday. As for blowing your whole income tax check. I spent about $40 when I started! It isn't expensive. BUT I have also never paid a dime for advertising. I just depend on all you to spread the word.. lol.. Now you will all want paid huh? You are right though. Don't go falling for some silly scheme. It shouldn't cost you anything to work from home! I did full time daycare for the first year. It took that long for my website to start making money! It still isn't enough yet that I could quit my weekend job if I wanted to (although I DID once) but I hope with the new scrapbooking site, and the blogs that I will be able to do that next year with no worries!

connie, how much money do you make from your blogs? I want to start a blog but like merika said I can't think of a topic for an interesting blog that would drive traffic and that people would be interested in.

You know what? I wish I could tell you but I honestly don't know. I have never set up my channels to determine what money comes from where in my affiliate programs.. Here is what I CAN tell you. When I set up my website I naturally watched to see how much traffic I got each day. It took a LONG time to get a decent amt of traffic. Right now my NEWEST blog which has been up for about two weeks gets half the traffic that my katieshugs.com website gets! I am AMAZED! It took me a good 8 months to get my website traffic to get where my blog traffic already is after a few weeks.. Traffic is what is going to make you money.. Blogs get indexed faster and get a lot of advertising from places like technorati etc... I feel very encouraged that within the next 9 mos my income will be triple what it is now and the majority will be from my blogs.. To give you an idea... I make around 1200 a month from my website... with the new website and the blogs I expect to triple THAT amt in a year... (Again, the blogs have not been up long enough that I can tell you if an increase or any certain amt is from THEM personally) As the traffic increases I will have a better idea of what is coming from where since i CAN see the daily traffic for each site..)

thanks for the info Connie. That's great that you make $1200 from your website. I'm still trying to think of an idea to start a blog with. Do you think it would be real likely to make $200 to $300 a month with a blog?

Easily.. but you will have to stick with it. You might not see that for 6 months or more. Once you are establised and have readers and are showing up in the search engines you can do it. You will want to pick a topic that will draw a lot of interest.. When you are setting it up imagine yourself being there. Would you click on the ads that are being shown? That is what you want your readers to do.

Cool. I think if I came up with a good idea I wouldn't have a problem sticking with it. I only work part time. So I have some free time on my hands, Well after the normal house work and wife durties are done. Do you have any ideas that could lead me in the right direction? I wish I would have found your website a year ago when I was planning a wedding. Then I could write a blog about the daily stresses about that. But My husband and I ended up eloping in Las Vegas b/c I couldn't take the stress. ;D Thanks for all your great advice.

Ive been thinking and thinking of ideas for you and it is hard to help you on a topic when I don't know what you like or enjoy. I would suggest you go to technorati.com and look at the favorite blogs and the blogs getting the most hits to get some ideas. It is just endless, movies, celebritys, etc. Here is a funny thing. I was just looking at top keywords for the week and week after week they are full of celebrity names. This explains why one blogger is very successful with a celebrity gossip type of blog. See? You can write about anything.. lol

Thanks for that tip Connie. I love to read about the gossip about celebrities. I stay pretty current on it. Maybe I should start one like that. After all that is an endless topic. hehehe
