I love "other mothers" I have noticed that ours doesn't have a whole lot in Katies size anymore now that she is a "big girl". We went this past winter to find a coat or some such thing and there just wasn't much in her size. When she was small I used to shop there for her all the time though!

I and my bf have been living together for 7 almost 8 years, since i was 16, we have never ever paid for a piece of furniture in our house! not 1! ok alon time ago i bought a small end table from a thrift store that was going out of business, i got it for a $1.00. First of all i always take whatever relatives or friends throw out. second i am a gold medalist in a sport we call "dumpster diving " . we don't actually rummage through a dumpster but we will pick up furniture off the side of the road, the last apt. we lived at had a smallpicket fenced in area near the trash compactor for furniture, everyday we checked. We got a leather loveseat in brand new condition, a 2 coffie tables ( we found a small one first and uopgraded when someone pitched a larger one ) a very nice computer desk with shelves that needed less than $5.00 worth of screws ( did i mention i collect screws nails and other random things like this from friends in the manual labor field, they end carrying pockets loads of these things home and i gladly collect them and add them to an old pickle jar ), i also got several end tables 2 other loveseats, bookshelves, a large rug, literally everything that is in my house right now except for my bed wich i convinced my parents to buy as a x-mas and b-day present a few years back. While it was on sale ofcourse. to some this might sound a little yicky, but a little lysol , wich i do spray on everything i pick up, is a small price to pay for free furniture. great info on cvs , i thought i was pretty darned thrifty but didn't know anything about this. thanks!

Doesn't sound yicky at all to me! Sounds smart and thrifty! My couch is the best couch I have ever owned and I got it when the neighbors across the street bought a new one and set it out... It has recliners on both ends a drawer underneath in the middle and we recently discovered it has a little table in the middle that folds down.. I absolutely love it and it was in great condition.. they did have dogs so it needed a few good doses of febreeze along the frong where they laid but that was it!

I am not the best at being thrifty. I cant make money stretch. BUT I never pay full price. I just cant! LOL
My couch is a handme down. matter of fact.. every stick of furniture in my home was given to me except my entertainment center ( cheapo walmart one) and my bedroom furniture. It was all given to us. kids stuff included. Of course most of that was after the house fire. But my house that burned was entirely furnished with old furniture ( some antiques) that my grandmother had or picked up at auctions for nothing.
CVS is also eckards. or it is in Texas

I'm not super thrifty but I am really glad with the deal I got on my new loveseat and couch. I had just gotten my new military star card so for the first 24 hours I got 10% off of my purchases I went to the Navy Exchange furniture store where they had 30%-40% off and got an olive green microsuede couch and loveseat set including the 75.00 delivery fee for 350.00. Of course some of our furniture was the good old curb side shopping lol.

You know the military rates at the commissary and exchange are pretty good however their prices are almost matching those out in town now it's crazy.

Prices everywhere are just ridiculous. Im now making my own laundry soap and loving it better than anything I ever bought. I also decided yesterday I wasn't buying sliced cheese anymore. Im buying the brick and slicing my own, unless it's swiss..

which laundry soap recipe did you end up using Connie? Do you wash in cold water? Doe sit work as well?
I try to be frugal all around. I use coupons and freecycle. Before free cleaning supplies at drugstores, I made all my own. I use cloth diapers. I never pay full price for anything, I scrounge clearance and garage sales.

Here is a suggestion I live in an apartment complex and I have noticed towards the end of the month leases run up and people are constantly moving in and out if you check by the dumpsters people get rid of a lot of stuff (furniture, computers, area rugs etc.) Just some food for thought.

Great idea Kris! I know people who do that and get all kinds of goodies.
Tara I used: 2 cups grated Nepthal soap, 1 cup of washing soda and 1 cup of Borax and I added some citrus oil to the mix as well. You only use two tablespoons per load and YES.. it works great! Plus it got the icky smell out of my washer! I use cold mostly because we can't figure out how to get the hot water to work with this setup..

I saw your other post about it and said duh! LOL. I'm going to have to give it a try. Where did you find your fels soap? did you find it in a store or online?

It was the easiest to find! It was right next to the Borax in the laundry area. The hardest thing to find was the washing soda.. Alberstons didn't have it, Walgreens didn't have it.. I finally found it at Fred Meyers..
The fels was easy! You can also use basic Ivory bath soap from what I have read.. I really like the texture of the fels though.. it isn't a melty bath soap, it's very firm and grates really easily.

Do you have an Ace Hardware? Odd place to buy it but from a quick search it looks like they carry it.
