What is the most frugal thing you do or have done?
For me it is probably an everyday thing. I won't pay full price unless it is absolutely necessary. If there is something we want I will wait a year or more to find it at a steal. Drives my husband crazy because he is an "I want it now" person.

We have a lot of municpal transfer stations here in VT. They are places you bring your trash and recycling instead of going straight to the dump. Many of these places have "reuse" areas. People drop off books, furniture, small kitchen appliances, bikes, furniture, clothes, small electronics, toys... you name it, it's bound to turn up at some point or another. I frequent the transfer stations in "richer" towns and often come away with garbage bags full of clothing-- some with tags on still. I have been able to clothe my family doing this for almost 10 years now. We do buy new stuff, but I try not to. The thought of buying a shirt at Walmart for $10 makes me cringe when I think about the Talbot's, LL Bean and JCrew stuff I wear for free! When I get home and wash the stuff I inevitably find I have items that don't fit or someone doesn't like. I take these to the consignment store and earn money.

We went to garage sales today. We found a couple of great deals. Connie, I'm like you, I hate paying full price for most things.

Do you walk away if they won't give you the price you want or at least come with in reason? I do and it drives Bill crazy but at the same time he appreciates it.. haha

I have to say that I am not very frugal and that's why I am doing the challenge!!! I have been living unconciously and not really thinking about the money I spend. So, you all have to give me ideas on how to save. Every since my DH and I sat down and decided to change our financial situation my eyes have been SO opened. For instance, now that I go to the grocery store with CASH and I have a limit, it's crazy what I won't buy. I never thought about saving so much money at the grocery store. Off brands are the best!!

Watch the policies where you shop too. Yesterday I got my bread for free because it rang up wrong at the register.. I have had a very frugal week. I got Katie a new coat at Fred Meyer this week.. Original price was $49.. my price was $8! It will last her through next year as well.. it was marked down and then an ADDITIONAL 70% off.. I also got her some nice Carters pajamas for about $3 and a new shirt for just a couple of dollars as well. I love those sales!

When it comes to garage sales, I'm pretty content to pay what they are asking. I don't buy things "just because". So if I pick it up and say "how much is it?" it's pretty much mine, I want it.

I shop @ CVS. Does anyone else shop there ? Here's a run down on my last trip there (friday)
Here's what I bought -
1 - tylenol cough & cold (kids) 4 - agent blue mouth rinse 2 - gillette gel deoderants 2 - tresemme mousse 1 - toothbrush (cvs band) 1 - colgate toothpaste
I gave the cashier a $4 off $20 cvs coupon a $20 extra care buck (cvs money) a $5.99 extra care buck
my final total was 80 cents.
I LOVE CVS !!!!
btw, I'll get $2.99 back for the toothpaste.
My best was $67 of products, I paid 12 cents. Thats because I had to buy a candy, they owed me money.
a good tip - take your prescriptions to another pharmacy, if they have re-fills. Then wait for either CVS or Rite Aid to offer a coupon "transfer a prescription & get a $30 giftcard"
CVS accepts competors coupons !
Now you have $30 to buy stuff
I have enough toothpaste, shampoo, condtioner and deoderant (for me) to last a year. not to mention hairdye.

No Rite Aid is different.
CVS is the BEST. Get their Extra Care Card, have it swipped every time.
Some items you get FULL price back in 48 hrs. In October, so much was "free"
it was amazing. The L'oreal foundation was b1g1 free but they gave you $10 back on EACH !!
I have foundation and mascara for a year too.

Thats what I was afraid of.. I believe we have CVS pharmacies in our Albertsons stores.. or at least there was talk of it at one time. Anyway.. we don't have a stand alone CVS store.

I shop at "Other Mothers". The last weekend of every month they have a 25 cent sale. I buy all my kids clothes there, and some for me. I also get toys and sometimes shoes there.
