I know that traveling with kids is never easy. Now-a-days most people have a dvd player, but for those who don't please list all your traveling game ideas here!!! For example:
We play the letter game. We start with the letter A, when we find the letter A on a billboard or on a liscense plate we call it. Next is B. We look at cars, signs, bridges, bumper stickers, anything that has letters/words on it. My DH and I traveled a WHOLE lot for his work and this is one of the games we'd play. And it keeps kids occupied and it takes a good 30-50 minutes to complete depending on where you are.

I found a couple of bingo games at a yard sale this year and katie loves them.. instead of regular bingo they have things like a cow, a lightpost, a police car.. etc.. She also really likes I Spy.. we play that a LOT.. of course we have to pick things farther away so they aren't gone by the time she figures it out but at stop lights and stuff you can pick things closer to you.

My 9 year old son is very artistic and loves to draw, so when we are traveling I always pack a large sketch pad and a zip lock bag full of markers and colored pencils. As we are driving we give him ideas of things to draw or if he sees something interesting along the way he will draw it. However, my 12 year old is gameboy all the way.

Great ideas! We also play railroad and is a good game to develop vocabulary and spelling. One person starts the game off by saying railroad and then spelling it. The next person must come up with a word that starts with a "D" because it was the last letter in railroad. For instance DOG. The next person must spell and say a word that starts with a G (the last letter) like GHOST. If it is not a word, a reused word, or is misspelled, they are out. This is a real fun game that everyone in the car can play.

Hmmm, I think my brother and I mostly just fought on road trips . The one thing I actually did the most though was listen to cassette tapes on my little personal walkman. With the cheap MP3 players you can buy today, you could load it up with songs and not even have the inconvenience of hauling a bunch of stuff around like in the days of cassettes. If you want to spring for Nintendo DS's, you can play against each other wirelessly in a lot of games. There's plenty of educational games too, like Big Brain Academy. You only need one cart, and can have up to 3 other people connect to you to compete. I'm embarrassed to say, my mom kicks my butt in that game. If the DS is too rich for your blood, you can pick up GBA's for really cheap these days. Pokemon's a good game that lasts about forever, and even has quite a bit of reading you have to do. You can get GBA videos too, with episodes of shows like Pokemon, Spongebob, and Barbie. The good thing about the videos is that you can often find them in bargain bins for super cheap.
