This is *borrowed* and I left it "as is" errors and all
www.backpackgeartest.org/
I am a member of this group... in excahnge for testing and reporting on backpacking gear, the manufacturers (almost always) let us keep the gear we test. There are only a few occassions (such as when we're 'beta testing' an item) that the gear must be returned to the manufacturer.
Although it's free in the sence that it doesn't cost anything, you do need to write three reports on each item you test, and actually test it in backpacking situations, a minimum of 5 days/nights on the trail.
We're getting to the point where we're so successful with the manufacturers that we have more gear than testers, and volunteers to monitor the tests. We need to recruit more testers, and fast, before the 2006 Spring gear glut.
IF YOU BACKPACK, OR KNOW SOMEONW WHO DOES, *PLEASE*
consider joining the group and testing out gear or pass this info on to your friend. You have to write two reviews of gear that you already own before you can test an item, and 'newbies' are only allowed to test one 'major' item. After the first 4-month test is complete, you are considered a 'veteran' and can test multiple major items at a time.
I started this Spring, and have tested the Victorinox Swisstool Spirit, and am currently testing ProBars, LEDHEDZ Cruizer 10, GSI HAE cookset, Coleman Krypton tent, Coleman Xcursion lantern, and Spenco Backpacker Insoles. The reports can take a bit of time to write, but there are Mentors available fot anyone who wants help getting up and running with an Owner review.
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED! Please, feel free to post this in other freebie forums, but also please post the WHOLE message...
Thank-you!!
