It's kind of like the old Starkist commercials...
Sorry Charlie, employers don't want workers who need work, they only want workers that already work.

I'm no fool, I know my long-term unemployment has a big affect on prospective jobs when I apply. But there's nothing I can do about it.
But it's crap for employers just to assume it's because of poor performance on our last job or that we're lazy or something like that. They should know in today's economy that there's more to it than what they want to assume. Every time you turn around there's someone else who's unemployed, no matter who they are or what they did before.
I'd like for some of these clowns sitting on their nice plush thrones high & mighty in their offices to walk a mile in my shoes.

So true.. as someone who used to interview and hire.. I can't even IMAGINE looking at someones current status and dismissing them. You could be missing out the best employee you ever had.
I looked at job history based on how long each person was at their last few jobs and why they left. THAT can be quite revealing.. but not based on just the last job.
For instance we had someone apply recently for a position at the golf course.. His last three jobs he was either let go or left because "management disputes"... All within a few months of being hired... okay.. BIG red flag...
Others though.. had long term histories with previous employers and valid reasons for no longer being employed.. why dismiss them simply because they aren't working right this second?
