Usually I don't talk back to the TV, but last week I saw a report that made me so mad I yelled "HEY! Shut Up!"
Some consumer reporter did a story on the "hidden calories" in desserts. They went to all sorts of Ice Cream shops (Baskin & Robbins, Cold Stone, etc) and then compared the serving size they purchased to what the company said their serving size should be.
In almost every case the consumer was getting about 50% MORE than they were paying for. Only 1 shop was serving the exact size they were supposed to be serving.
But since the extra ice cream meant extra calories, this extra ice cream was presented as a threat to dieters.
I just wanted to slap the reporter upside their pointy little head.
More ice cream than you pay for is a GOOD THING. I don't give a diddly about the calorie count. I'm eating ICE CREAM, for pete's sake.
If someone is dieting and they choose to treat themselves to an ice cream, that's their business. If they have any sense at all they should know how much they can eat and not blame others if they eat too much.
I wouldn't be surprised if the companies shown in the report sent letters to all the managers reminding them to watch their employees and make sure they weren't giving anyone too much ice cream.
Everybody else loses out, just to "protect" customers who probably shouldn't be there in the first place.
d'oh!
