Before last Saturday I hadn't been to McDonalds in about 15 years. Nothing against McDonalds, it's just that there are always other choices.
But ever since I started my little project to visit every fast food chain and find one thing on the menu I actually like, I planned on returning to McDonalds. I'm rediculously picky, so it isn't easy finding even ONE thing I like on most fast food menus.
Back when I was (more or less) a regular McDonalds customer, I used to like the Double Cheeseburgers, so that's what I ordered. A double cheeseburger and a Coke.
I ordered the double cheeseburger w/o onions (I'm sort of allergic to them). It was delicious, despite the fact that it had a ton of ketchup on it. It tasted exactly like I remembered it. It wasn't great, but it was OK. No complaints on the burger. The Coke was horrible, though. It tasted like they started pouring a Dr. Pepper and then switched to Coke. And it was watery. Yuck!
Unless it's an emergency or other unusual circumstances. I probably won't be returning to McDonalds for another 10 or 15 years. But it's nice to know if I do, I know what to order.
I think I might visit Taco Bell next. It's unusual for me to go to two fast food places in one week, but I've got a coupon for a free Lime something or other drink, so maybe I'll go there for lunch later in the week.

I used to go to Taco Bell years ago, but not anymore. Back when I was a teen, they were the only ones open late so we'd all go there on weekends. All I ever ate was regular tacos & beef burritos. But I don't think they have beef burritos anymore (or they've added a lot to them).
What does everyone think of the Govt.'s (especially Michelle Obama) plan to take it upon themselves to "make our kids skinny?" California has already banned toys from Happy Meals and now the Govt. wants to get rid of Ronald McDonald. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH get out of our lives already!!
Just another example of our Govt. sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. It's parents' responsibility. If someone takes their kid to McDonald's several times a month, that's their choice. Not the best choice, but it should still be theirs to make.
I don't think eliminating the toys or Ronald is going to stop kids from wanting to go or parents from taking them. And why is it always McDonald's taking the brunt of the attacks? Other fast food joints offer toys too.
I guess we should kill off Tony the Tiger, the Lucky Charms leprechaun, the Trix rabbit and all the rest because they attract kids to sugary cereals.
Congress is still considering that tax on soda. They pull that crap and I'll know exactly how smokers feel. But in defense of soda, I'm guessing it's not as harmful as smoking nor is it at all harmful to the people around me while I drink it. Who the hell are you to tax something just because it's full of sugar & empty calories? I thought this was my body.
Why are we going backwards in the freedom department?

OC, I totally agree.
I didn't know they outlawed Happy Meal toys here in California. If so that's totally messed up.
I've bought many Happy Meals just to get the toy. Often I'd throw the meal away, because I only wanted the toy. I have lots of cool Happy Meal toys in my collection.
I'm guessing they target McDonalds because they are the biggest chain and spend the most on advertising (and advertising aimed at kids). Who knows, they may think if they cow McDonalds, the other chains might fall in line. I agree, it's totally unfair to single them out.
The proposed soft drink tax is rediculous, too. I think the taxes they put on smokers are outrageous, too. I don't smoke, I never have. But as long as it's legal, how is it fair to target this one bad behavior?
Instead of doing the job we're paying them to do (insure food and drug safety, for example), politicians spend their energy trying to get people to change their personal eating habits. If they actually DID the job we pay them to do, they'd lose campaign donations form the people they are supposed to be regulating.
Michelle Obama picked a losing issue. Her campaign against childhood obesity has about as much chance for success as Nancy Reagan's Just Say No To Drugs campaign. Zero.
I'm bored with and tired of the whole First Lady picking an issue thing. It's so shallow and phony, more about photo ops and feeding the 24 hour news cycle beast than effecting any real change or demonstrating effective leadership.
We're going backward in the freedom department because loud people are continually demanding less freedom! It's not enough that they know not to eat trans fats, they have to try to get the government to make it illegal for any restaurant to use it.

Louis, I found an independent grocery store in Santa Barbara with an old fashioned butcher counter, and they sell buffalo.
The steaks looked good, but they were very lean. Usually I won't buy beef steaks unless they are well-marbled.
I'm thinking maybe buffalo steaks generally leaner, and therefore less marbled?
They were sort of pricey, so I thought I'd ask what to look for/expect before I forked over the dough.

Just because buffalo meat is not marbled, doesn't mean it's not tender. You can grill it just like a regular steak, even use your favorite marinades, if you so desire. It also makes great jerky (smoker hint here), or even sliced thin for sandwiches. Remember that the mean is leaner, so it won't drip as much grease as beef. That being said, I like to used McCormicks Grilling Sensations on my steaks and in my burgers - and it works well for buffalo too. There a lots of buffalo recipes you can find on the Internet too. Just don't over-cook it!

crimsulent: I don't know if you were aware, but you can actually purchase the Happy Meal toy separately, without paying for the meal. I will admit, we put a lot of ketchup on our food at work, and a laughably small amount of mustard. However, we use pumps on a pre-measured system, so there's not an awful lot we can do about that. If you all haven't, I suggest trying the Snack Wraps. The grilled Chipotle BBQ is my favorite. Yum.
