Hi all! My husband is diabetic and a few months ago, he developed an ulcer on his foot. The doctor at first thought it might lead to amputation of part of the foot, so he wanted my husband to take time off of work. Due to all of the issues with his foot, we have accrued many medical bills and have fallen behind on many of our regular bills. Would any of you be aware of anywhere that will help people out with situations like this? My husband is now back to work, but due to all of the behind bills we now have, we are having a horrible time catching back up. Please let me know if any of you know of anything. Thanks!
Stephanie

Stephanie try to go to the hospital billing dept and work with them. Just tell them you can't afford all those charges and see what they will do. Sometimes they are nice and reduce it some.

Most hospitals have a 'Community Benefits' program, where they will discount your bill according to income. Hope this helps...

1) Check www.modestneeds.org/ . I used them & got an unexpected medical bill paid. They do ask for personal info but they are legitimate. They sent me a check made out to the doctor so, it was terrific. 2) I am ASTONISHED at how much the hospital & doctors will reduced the bill, I mean 30-40%. You do have to pay in full to get that kind of discount. What I do is make payment arrangements with the hospital, then when I get a chunk of money I ask them what they will take to settle the bill. With so many people out of work, most doctors and hospitals have become easier to deal with. 3) Also, my spouse is diabetic & the costs of meds can be overwhelming. Check all the drug manufacturer's websites. I've found that if you have any kind of decent paying job, you won't qualify for the free stuff but I've gotten some good coupons like $25 off a month (for 4 months) on Novolog insulin .
