I won't make this about Ted Kennedy's death.
He asked the Massachusetts law makers to change State law to allow the Gov. to appoint an interim replacement.
The current law was passed in 2004 when then Gov. Mitt Romney was in office and Democrats were worried he'd pick a Republican to fill John Kerry's seat.
So as part of his reasoning for his request, Kennedy said (and I'm paraphrasing) it was vital for Mass. to have both voices in the Senate.
If Kennedy had a problem with the current law, where was he when it was passed in 2004? Why did he not speak up then? Why has he not said anything about it since then?
It's simple. He knew his seat in Senate was important to healthcare reform. He knew his fellow Democrat & supporter of Pres. Obama, Gov. Patrick, would appoint a Democrat successor to fill his seat until the special election. He knew healthcare reform is scheduled to be voted on this fall, before a special election would take place, and he wanted someone sitting in that seat who would vote as he would. It had nothing to do with having 2 voices from Mass. in the Senate or he would have brought this up long ago.
Dirty politics. But then again, is there such a thing as clean politics?
And before any left wingers say anything...if it were a Republican who tried to pull this garbage, I would feel the same way.

You must mean me. Your right; it was expediant politics. They were so sure Senator Kerry would leave, and that than Gov Romney would get to appoint the successor. I actually thought it was classless when they did that. But needing two Senators does hold merit. Ask the good Senator Amy Klobuchar of MN. Her office had been swamped with business she could hardly handle with the absence of a second Senator with all the legal rangling that went on up there. Senators do a whole lot more than vote once in awhile, at least they are suppose to. There really should be one set rule as how open seats are to be handed, but that would cause a states rights argument. This has happened in many cases on both sides and most likely will keep happening. So the left winger agrees with you in away. Most likely it will happen though.

Two days ago, I received an email from the NDCC asking for a donation in the name of Ted Kennedy, so they could continue to pursue projects he believed in. He wasn't even buried yet, and the email really p*ssed me off. I also get emails from the NRCC, and most of the emails I get from either party are requests for donations, but this email was just plain tacky!
