I am in my early sixties and am retired. Am getting chubby. Realize I am at an age now where my health is so very important. Am trying to eat healthy and get enough exercise. Have always watched what I ate and stayed at a good weight but am having some trouble now that I am older. Look forward to reading this thread and getting some good tips and advice on diet and exercise.

You are certainly not in the boat alone. As we get older the weight is harder to lose. I just turned 52 and am trying once again to get more contol of my weight.
Good luck to you as well as to all of us. There are some good thread here with some good tips.

Thank you eileen,
I really started noticing a difference in my gaining weight around the age of fifty five. Also noticed the women that live around me and are my age getting chubby also.
It really hit me when my weight was the same as when I gave birth to my daughter. I just could not beleive what was happening to my body. I had fat where I had never had fat before. And that scale had to be wrong.
It is a shame in our older years we can not just enjoy food without worrying about becoming fat. But looks like I am going to be counting those calories until the very end.
My daughter who is twenty two told me to think of it as staying healthy and eating healthy instead of trying not to be fat. LOL Or maybe I should say chubby sure sounds better.
It is a challenge. Look forward to reading all the good info from the other members.

Well heck, you all make it sound like Im ten years early! I started getting chubbier around 40 (am now 45). Of course since that is also when I started sitting at the computer daily.. hmmm maybe that is the problem.
Bottom line is that it doesn't seem as easy to keep the weight down anymore regardless. I KNOW I need to get out and exercise more and I just keep putting it off.
Okay: My goal.. as soon as school starts I am going to start keeping a schedule for myself which will include daily excercise. Someone remind me.. my memory isn't so great anymore either!

Connie OK, I will remind you. I think the longer we let the extra weight stay on us the harder it is to get off. Now is the time. Oh man I had potatoes and gravy tonight for supper. I have been doing really well with what I have been eating this past week and than today I went back to the comfort food. My husband is a great cook and fixed supper. If it were just me in a little apartment I think I could have an easier time with not over eating and eating healthy. Excuses I am good at. LOL Connie I think exercise plays a great big part in gaining weight. I am retired and when I started staying home I put on weight. Seems I can not eat much at all when not exercising. But I know your weight kind of shifts when you get older and you are wider through the middle. I think the behind too. At sixty everything starts changing. Enjoy your forties.

I'm 51 and am heavier than I have ever been, including 9 months pregnant. Had a hysterectomy last year and after that it seems like the weight in my middle (mostly fat) is accumulating. The doctors just say it is part of aging, I find that hard to believe. I think maybe it is a hormonal imbalance? I am 5' 3" tall and my weight was usually 120 lbs. I am now up to 150 lbs. and not very happy with that! I have done weight watchers in the past and it worked well, losing 20 lbs. But now, it doesn't seem to work. I just recently started walking after work with a friend plus joined a fitness place that is similar to Curves. They recommend working out 3 days a week and I have been going 4-5 times a week. So far, no weight loss, but I will continue - hopefully at least firm up my thighs, hips, butt. I will post updates. :-)
