President Obama's Administration is highly touting its 11% 'proposed' increase to the Department of Veterans Affairs, as if the increase is already approved. It is one thing to propose budget increases, but quite another to have the increases survive the budget process and get them approved.
Too many times, I have seen where funding for veterans' programs has been proposed and scrapped. So pardon me if I say:
"I'll believe it, when I see it".
Many people don't realize the problems that veterans are faced with, when applying for service-connected compensation. Dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs can be more difficult than dealing with the Social Security Administration.
I would like to see some funding given to processing veteran's claims, as the backlog is huge and there are many problems, such as: documented episodes of shredding of paperwork needed for claims; giving mail 'late' timestamps and claiming the paperwork was received too late; poor handling of claims, due to quotas to be met (easier to deny than approve); poor or improper training; ahhh, the list goes on... In the disabled veterans culture, there are sayings describing the Department of Veterans Affairs policies, that can be summed up "Delay, deny, delay, deny, everyday another veteran dies". The claim normally dies then, as it is even more difficult for the veteran's family to pursue the claim.
Bah! Sorry for venting... but this is No Holds Barred!
IMHO - For any veterans having problems with the Department of Veteran's Affairs, I have found HadIt.com an excellent resource to research for answers and ask questions.
