OK, so I went to some health-related site for whatever reason. While there, I noticed one of those devices where you put in your height and weight and they tell you your body mass index or somesuch nonsense. So, I put in the data and it says what I already know: you're a fat %#*!*&. So, I know I need to lose some weight. OK, not some, a LOT. I change the data so now I weigh 40 pounds less. I hit enter and I'm STILL a fat lump of lard. So I put in 50 pounds less. Dang! I'm still overweight! What the fudge? I had to put in 60 pounds to even get the stupid device to give me a different outcome, and it still wasn't whatever you have to be to be 'healthy' by their standard. Now, since I look in the mirror nearly every day, it wasn't actually a shock to me that I was fat. I fully knew I needed to drop 20 or 30 pounds. But seeing that 20 or 30 pounds wouldn't really even be close to enough to be within the suggested guidelines was sobering. I don't know what, if anything I'm going to do about this. Judging by my past history, probably nothing. Well, ok, I did do one thing. I'm kicking my Pepsi habit. I drink several a day, every day and I have been drinking that much for dozens of years. I quit buying it last week and started drinking water with my meals. I can't tell you how much I hate water with my meals. It makes meals about a million times worse. I have a huge atttitude like a seriously spoiled five year old not getting his way. But, screw it, I'm not going to give in. I had already been getting sick of the price of Pepsi creeping up lately. Now I'm cutting that escalating expense and the unnecessary caloric content. But I tell you, kicking Pepsi ain't easy!

I hated water too. Now I fill a glass up w/ crushes ice and 1/2 water. I love drinking it that way.
Also there are so many flavored waters out there. Try those. If you miss the fizziness of your Pepsis, try the flavored water drinks at Walmart. (Their brand) They are good tasting, low or no calories.
Good luck to you !

Im right there with you. I tried switching to diet pepsi, but I hate it so I couldn't stick with it. I've been using real lemon, you can get a packet of 10 for about $1 and it gives some nice no calorie flavor to the water. I've also been trying the crystal light to go packs, they are okay. Then for caffeine.. tea.. I throw one of the cold brew bags into my glass... still no calories but something different than water.

thanks for the encouragement, Heavenly! yeah, I'm going to be drinking a lot more tea, Connie. i'm thinking i might make some iced tea, too. then again, with the amount of sugar i add to iced tea i would probably be better off drinking the pepsi! LOL! and, yeah, diet pepsi is horrid! it's actually MUCH worse than water. thanks to both of you for the flavoring suggestions... i've never tried the flavored waters before. and i'm glad you mentioned the lemon, Connie... that's a good idea too!

Be careful with the flavored waters, especially the vitamin waters and things like propel. They tend to have a decent amount of calories as well.
Luckily I like my iced tea unsweetened so it works. I did cave today and had dh bring home a two liter or pepsi... and to top it off he tried to be sweet and brought me some garlic bread as well! I only ate one piece and will have just a little bit of pepsi so I don't feel "deprived".. but I had NONE yesterday!

we're gonna beat the Pepsi monster, Connie!
and i'm already liking not forking out the $$$ for Pepsi!
i figure i probably be saving about $20 a month right there, at the very least

Vitamin waters have 150 per bottle. They do have a new 10 calorie version. I think they have a weird taste.

So far I've managed to avoid restocking Pepsi. I am still ordering one with meals at restaurants, but not drinking them at home. Considering the fact that I would go through 4 or 5 cans a day, this is a huge improvement.
The thing is, some food DEMANDS a Pepsi. I don't want to snack on potato chips without a Pepsi. Now I don't have any Pepsi, so I'm not interested in the chips. Maybe kicking Pepsi will save me calories from the junky food I eat while drinking that fine, delicious, refreshingly cold, delightful Pepsi product. Sorry, I lost it for a minute there. Pepsi is bad. (but you're right, Connie, it's DELICIOUS!)
I'm not sure where you got the 90 calorie figure. I was just looking into the subject yesterday and it looked to be like Pepsi was 13 or 14 calories an ounce. That would be considerably more than 90 calories for a 12 oz can.

Oh those numbers sound scary. I have a two liter in the fridge. It says 100 calories for 8 ounces.. so a 12 oz can would be 150? Im not sure where I came up with the 90 calorie number but it sounds better I like that you are giving up other junk foods simply because you don't want them with no pepsi.. very nice side effects!

I used to drink about 6 Pepsi a day. I've also had kidney stones twice, and soda is a possible cause of those. But I was never able to ummm, recover a sample of the stones so they could determine what caused them. I'm thinking it had to be the soda.
Then a couple years ago I started getting "those pains" around my right kidney...like I had stones again. So I quit soda cold turkey. Never got the headaches like some people do when they quit and even took a drink of a Pepsi at one point and thought it tasted bad. I lasted 2 weeks, then eventually got back on them.
For the last year or so I've managed to drop it down to 2 a day, sometimes 3. I do drink soda when we go out to eat. Although when we're out, I always drink Dr. Pepper if they have it (not that it's healthier, just prefer it when eating out for some reason). And I tend to drink more if we're hanging out with friends and I'm not in the mood for a few beers.
Absolutely LOVE a Pepsi with my meals. I'll never kick them 100%, but I don't think I even want to.

I have the same problem with Coke, though I drink diet. But considering many boat owners use coke and pepsi to clean decks and hulls you've got to figure they're bad for you. I've tried quitting a bunch of times and I get the headaches bad.

Unhealthy Food gives you this wonderful euphoric feeling that makes you want more and before you know it you no longer resemble your former self.
Things that worked for me was:
Taking brisk walks at night, because I was too ashamed to go out in the day Hypnosis Creative Visualization/Guided Imagery Meditation Exercising while watching TV Finding other fulfilling activities that fill the void of wanting food even when I'm not hungry I haven't drank soda in years, once it's gone you don't really miss it. I definitely got into a habit of drinking and enjoying water Fasting and Detoxing like the stuff on curezone.com
