I originally thought "AGAIN?", but realized that I was thinking about the writer's strike that paralyzed the industry last year. And then the threatened Directors Strike, that was resolved over the Summer. So I researched the possible Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike. From CNN: I guess it goes to show how out-of-touch Hollywood's Rich and Shameless are with the rest of the country. Most people are struggling and praying to make ends meet, but the leadership of the SAG wants to strike. No thought to the struggling actors who make up a large part of their union. Even established actors in Soap Operas have been getting laid......off my bad

This one is a weird one. The new outlets for media is a legitimate questions but give me a break, strike over it.
Back in the depression (the classic one, not this one) the movies was one of the great retreats of the middle class and even the poor. Just about anyone could afford to go to the movies and see a newsreel, and a double feature. And the movies made people feel happy, sad and all the in betweens. It was the great escape. The studios made good money, the actors made good money (though most had little or no say in what work they got). And some excellent to schlocky movies where made.
Now you need to be well into the middle class to afford to go to the movies even once in awhile. It costs a fortune. The actors get paid for their marquee value, who knows if the movie is any good. The movie theater actually have to charge that much for popcorn, there is not a big profit margin in that business, it is all about the concessions.
When video first came out the movie markers tried to stop it with every lawyer they had. Now it is their biggest bread winner. DVDs came out by giving the viewers lots of extras. That is one of the ways they won us over. Now that they have us, they make two types, the poor version and the expensive editions. If you don't pay the extra bucks you don't get to see the fun extras.
Like Louis said, they haven't got a clue.
