Idaho Inmates complain of extreme violence at prison In the federal lawsuit Daniel Dixon contends that he and other inmates are being preyed upon by gangs and that correctional officers aren't doing enough to help. Dixon was sent to ICC in 2006 after he was convicted of molesting a 12-year-old girl. Word of Dixon's charges spread throughout the prison, and he says he was severely beaten by five white supremacist gang members in 2007. Dixon is asking for $1 million and better training for ICC guards. www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories/ktvbn-dec0608-idoc_.39a172b0.html

Well that guy can go stright to hell if the courts got it right and he did that crime. But in general I think ourprison systems are the most messed up in the world. And I do mean the whole world. Prisons serve a purpose and should be used accordingly. The US generally uses them as warehouses. Badly run warehouse at that. It is a large problem but I don't think anyone should be winning any money in court cases about it. Someday, the problem of prison overpopulation and abuse in prison (of both underpaid gaurds and prisoners) will have to be seriously addressed. When these folks come out, and many do, most are much worse than when they went in. That is a very scary thing to think about.
But as for this guy Dixon, he needs to shut up and do his time scared.

Well, actually, I think the point of the article is that the Idaho Correctional Institution is the only privately owned prison in Idaho, and that it has three times the other state prisons average for offender-on-offender assaults. However, it does not say if people sent to it are randomly selected, or if they are sent for specific crimes; in the latter case, any comparisions can be thrown out the window. As far as the lawsuit, I doubt it will go far - his lawyer would love to get money from anything, as would most lawyers. This Dixon is a coward, as evidenced by his behavior. Personally, I think any man who abuses women and children is a coward, and I don't have the slightest care in the world what happens to them. All in all, it may just be explained by the fact that the person complaining is in Idaho. I know someone from Idaho who complains about college football rankings...

Oh well. Thats my opinion on it. Is this a sex-offender only prison? Most states have to separate sex offenders, as they are generally killed in gen. pop. Its a privatized prison, but that really doesn't mean anything in terms of it changing. Prison is one of America's fastest growing industries. More and more prisons will become privatized, as its big business. And theres never going to be a shortage of inmates. I forget the actual statistic, but its way, WAY too high, of prison inmates released that still can't find a job after a year. A YEAR. Im not gonna sit here and justify crime, but I completely understand if you have some kids that are hungry, you gotta do what you gotta do.

No it's not a sex offender prison only place. does that matter? Are you really saying it's okay to sue a prison because you got the crap beat of you because of your crime? I just really have a hard time feeling that it's okay for ANY prisoner to complain about what happens to them in prison.. you aren't there because you are someone who has followed the letter of the law.
