I was watching CNN this morning and they mentioned that some NJ parents want a school cafeteria and playground aide to be fired, because she has a past as a porn actress. My first thought was "Of course she should". Then I got to thinking about it, and thought back to when I was in seventh grade, and I was told one of my teachers had posed for Playboy. So I mentioned it to my mother, who almost had a heart attack, and started calling people. She found out it was a rumor, as the teacher did look like the woman who posed (I never did get to see any pictures ). So I checked it out, and this story is true. I tried to find if there were any NJ laws she was violating, and found that a lot of people have been doing the same thing - maybe this should go in Hot Topic. I have found that there are laws where a sex offender can not be in contact with children, but there are no laws regarding a person with a past employment in the sex industry (stripper, actress, actor, etc...). Which brings me to the point of wondering if the person has 'changed' in some way, and there is no danger of exposure to the children; if there ever was. Then I wondered "which one of these caring parents watched the woman's videos and recognized her?'. I guess I really don't know how I feel about this The spousal unit says she should not be fired, as people can change. Any opinions out there?

I have very strong opinions on this. She should NOT be fired.
Should we fire teachers who get caught cheating on their spouses? Isn't this fairly equivilant to being a porn actress?
Should we fire teachers who have been caught lieing? I mean they are after all role models for our children.
Should we fire teachers who dress inappropritely? C'mon do you want your 9 year old son looking down the blouse of his female teacher who dresses this way?
While we're firing people, should we fire any teacher who has gotten a speeding ticket? Let's face it, porn acting is not against the law, but speeding is.
Many many many people try drugs in high school and college. We probably should fire any one who is a teacher and tried drugs. They too are against the law.
Ok and just to be clear, if you were a porn actress in the past, you get fired but if you currently engage in looking at porn that's ok?
Did I mention I have strong opinions?

I agree with you Audrey. She should not be fired for her past actions. She was a former stripper, not a former child molester. I don't see how it has any bearing on her current job. I would say cheating on a spouse is worse than being an porn star, but that's my opinion. Plus I feel that who I was and what I did years ago, is completely different than me today. People can change, but even if she had not unless she is stripping and making pornos AT school or starting an after school poll dancing club, it shouldn't matter.

It is now coming to light that she is not a 'past' performer, and is even the 2008 Model of the year for an adult magazine. So her job may be in jeopardy because of that - a moral conduct clause most schools require. But while researching this, I found something even more disturbing. The Federal government has set its sights on creating a list of every adult film star in America, supposedly to protect children. It is an interesting article (see link): www.associatedcontent.com/article/354081/feds_want_the_names_of_every_porn_star.html?cat=17OK, who was looking for pictures Too funny, too funny...Put another log on the fire!

Oh great, now Im on a tirade.. is it REALLY about morals and values or is it what our society has made important?
Really.. who was the most popular person in your HS? Was it the football start who's parents bought him the sports car or was it the smartest kid in class who worked his butt off studying?
Can you really put yourself through school these days waitressing at the local truck stop for $3 an hour and tips?
Do you KNOW what strippers make? HUNDREDS of dollars a NIGHT.. not $15 or $20.. WHY is that? Who are all these guys willing to dump hundreds of dollars every night into a strippers g-string... and why?
Would YOU not be tempted by that money, when our society says that money is the BIG deal and not your brains?
How many teachers making $30k a year wish they could make what stripper makes? How can you tell your child that this isn't the way to go when their friends are making a LOT more money than they are at the local fast food restaurant?
What happened to this countries morals and ideals? It isn't all about the people making pornos and stripping, it's about the people who no longer think it's a bad thing and are willing to pay BIG money for both.

Ok...if they want a list to make sure that none of the "stars" are under 18, that's fine. But if they want the list for any other reason, then it's no longer fine and I'll have a ton to say about it

I agree with Audrey as well. The point I am seeing is there is a HUGE difference between a pedophile adn someone who made money off showing whatever in the ADULT industry. Just because ( and I do not condone strip clubs whatever, just my own deal) someone was a stripper, posed or what have you does not mean they are a risk to kids in one way or another. I understand the MORAL controversy but I think comparing the two is a bit extreme.

I have good, strong morals & values and I don't have a problem with strip clubs & porno. I don't think the fact that I like both makes me a nasty, bad person but if someone else thinks that, so be it. I started going to strip clubs when I was 18. Haven't been to one in a few years because I can't really afford it and it just never came up with friends of mine, but I do look forward to going again someday. When I was younger I'd spend a lot of money at them...that's because I was dumb and fell for the whole "wow she really likes me" act. As I got older, it just became a place where I could hang out with friends, have a few beers and look at nude women. Some women may find it disgusting & degrading but I can guarantee you that worse things go on in a male strip club where women are the customers.
One of the bus drivers for our schools used to host "adult toy" parties for extra money. They were tasteful parties where the representative would come to your house similar to Tupperware or Home Interior parties only it was for adult oriented items. Nothing sick & disgusting and it wasn't like orgies broke out. Even some of the schools' staff & faculty would go. But once it got back to the school board, she was forced to stop having these parties or lose her driving job.
I thought that was BS! She was not hurting the schools in any way by having those parties. Even teachers & staff were going...would they have fired THEM for attending? You're no longer safe to have a private life anymore.

Of course she shouldn't be fired. However, if there is some sort of "morality clause" she signed going into the gig its her bad. I think the school district needs to be more concerned about the actual SEX OFFENDERS they have working for them (and yes they have them)! After nearly 2 decades of law enforcement I'm not shocked or surprised by much anymore.

Oh OC.. I never meant to imply that I think anyone who likes porn or strip clubs is bad or awful or anything of that nature.
My point was that as a society we are perfectly happy to have strippers and porn stars who make MORE than the people who teach our kids. THAT is what is wrong and bad and awful.
I am shocked over the bus driver story. I've personally been to some of those parties and they ARE done tastefully and are SO much fun..

It's ok, Connie. I didn't mean YOU meant that, but when you said it, it struck a cord. Many people do think a person is a sicko for enjoying that kind of thing.
I get what you mean about one making more than the other. I feel the same way when it comes to athletes & actors/actresses. We put them on such a high pedestal, now more than ever. Their words mean more to people than anyones and normally what comes out of their mouths isn't worth hearing.

I think most people get a bad view of it is because most stories that center on the topic point out when it get out of control. Like David Ducovny's porn addiction that helped break up his marriage and must have been embarrassing. As for strippers, I probably live near more strippers than most might ever run into living in Vegas and all. Most of those I have met seem pretty normal to me.
As for the main topic, was she doing a good job, all that was expected of her and not doing anything at her job that adversely affected the kids. Leave her alone.
Legislation to define morality. It's never worked most likely never will. At least until they prefect to little mind control thing DOD is working on. (Evil laugh heh, heh, heh, heh)

I have a couple of friends on the force.. one is a detective on the criminal end and one on the civil end. It's always fascinating to get the view points of someone working on the day to day end of all of this.

Connie, I've worked the last 19 years on the road. The first 11 were as a road deputy and the last 8 have been in traffic handling serious injury and fatal collisions. Looking forward to pulling the pin on all of this and starting a new career.

I have always respected the men and women of law enforcement, as they do I job that I would not. It is not the dangers of the job that bother me, it is the disrepect that one would have to deal with. I am not saying that all officers are desrving of respect, but I find the ones that shouldn't be are pretty rare. I have lived all over the United States, and have had plenty of interaction with law enforcement at all levels. Not because I have been charged with anything, but my primary MOS in the military was 97E.
But getting back to the subject of this thread:
"Some friends of mine asked me if I wanted to go to a strip club, and I didn't... want to. 'Cause, back me up on this, fellas: once you've seen one woman naked, you... wanna see the rest of 'em naked." - Ron White
Have a nice day!
Louis
