Last night my friend and co-worker called me. She said she had bad news , that a teacher had called her and said a former co-worker had a heart attack and passed away. This woman retired in June. She was the nicest woman ever. She always had a smile and a laugh.
I'm glad she did retire and have that time w/ her family. I feel so bad for her family to have lost her during this holiday time. I know she will be missed by all who knew her.

This is sad news, I'm sorry for her family also (especially for the Holidays). To have worked so long, and then to retire, only not to have much time to enjoy it. It may be a small blessing that she was not a current teacher, as that sends shockwaves through a school - been there, done that.

Thanks for replying and your thoughts.
I want to share w/ you my last conversation w/ Betty.
She intended to come back & sub as an aide in special ed. but she failed the test. When I heard the story (2nd hand) I thought it was nuts & maybe not really true.
She was at the school last month. I asked if it was true that she failed the test. She said, OMG YES !! apparently she passed the written part. Then the woman giving the test told her to "squat and walk across the room like a duck" she couldn't use her hands.
SERIOUSLY !!
Now Betty was maybe 5'2 and a bit overweight, not to mention in her 60's. The thought of her doing that, walking like a duck was so funny. Not to mention someone asking HER to do it. Knowing Betty she gave that person a piece of her mind ! She had me laughing so hard. I told her I had a nickname for her.
AFLAC .... as in the duck in the insurance commercials.
We laughed even harder after that. She wanted to contact the newspaper & tell a guy who writes a column about the walking like a duck. He writes kindof a funny column. I encouraged her to do it. I guess she didn't.
It was always a nice suprise to see her at school since she retired. I'll miss her. My heart really hurts for her family. No oneshould be allowed to die from Nov - Jan !!

I called one of the women who worked there last yr. I was sure someone would call her, but I wanted to make sure. She wasn't home, so I left this message, Hi Rose, this is Sue. I'm not sure of anyone from school has called you. If they haven't please return my call. I hope all is well w/ you bye.
She called me today and said someone else did call her and that person LEFT A MESSAGE SAYING THAT BETTY DIED !! OMG, who does THAT?

I am soo sorry!! its shame to be lost this close to the holidays and your right. you should never be tctless enough to leave anything about death or sickness on a machine. EVER. thats almost as bad as my step grandmother hearing her college age son was in a wreck and killed on his way home. They didnt say his name, but said "the deceased was drivin home from SFA to Jasper, for the holidays, when his red 4 door so and so car was hit and he was killed. "

I am so very sorry for your loss. I'm not sure I posted here, but a week ago my friend lost her husband. He was 3 months older than me. It was very sudden and very unexpected. Our entire community was in shock and mourning.
I really do understand the pain of losing a friend.

I went to her funeral on Saturday. Someone said she was home alone when she had the heart attack. She called 911. Its just so hard to believe because she was so full of life. She wasn't sick at all. The Principal might do something for her at school. He should, she worked there many yrs. I'm sorry for your loss Audrey.

I'm sorry for your loss, Heavenly. It's hard to lose a family member or loved one at any time, but I think we always feel it worse around the holidays.......
If the principal did something for her at the school it might bring some comfort to all her knew and loved her......
