I have been doing research for a couple of weeks nowand I seen alot of the scams! luckily I haven't fallin for them. I'm am trying to find ways to make extra money without having to spend money. I have seen numerous companies that pay for surveys and companies saying that they pay for you to participate in their focus groups. My brain in going into overload, I am overwhelmed with researching thesee companies and trying to figure out which one are not scams. I am asking for help trying to weed out the good from the bad. Can you all tell me what are some of your favorite companies are for Surveys and Focus Groups. I welcome any advice I can get, and I appreciate all input. Thank You, Steph

Hi Steph.. if you scroll down to the "Take Surveys" section you will find a big list of the legitimate survey sites and find information on focus groups that are accepting applications right now. It's also a great place to ask questions and get answers!

connie's list is about the best place to start. then check out the survey threads and by the way the companies are written about you should get a feel for the one you might like.
also a few of the members have sites of there own which talk about surveys companies and thier experinces with them.
Good luck, you came to the right place.

We've all been here, thankfully Connie's survey list is our saving grace. Love it. You won't make very much money, but an extra 2-3 grand a year is always better than no extra money!

Hi all,
I'm thinking about starting doing these surveys and I wanted to know...do you have to claim the money you make on your income tax?
I'm going to go through the list and decide which one to sign up for. I'm a bit nervous about this as I have never done anything like this before. Can you suggest my first 5 to try?
Thanks!
Happy New Year! May it be a prosperous one for all of us!

longislandgirl, We can't give you the best 5 to try, because companies are always looking for specific demographics. So what works for one person does not necessarily work for another. You must also consider the fact that some companies send out more surveys than others, but if you are not in the demographic they are looking for, you may get none. An example: I posted I received a Product Test from a company, and found out that Connie (board's Admin) has never received one from. I also like Greenfield because I qualify a lot, but many others don't. My advice to you is: look through the Big Lists; click on a company name you like; look at the description of the company on it's website; and if you think you would be a good fit, then join it! As far as taxes are concerned, it is my understanding that when you earn $600 or more from a single company, then they have to file a W-2G with the IRS. The earnings are considered sweepstakes winnings, because you qualified to earn the payments. Other than that, they would have to pay you as a contractor and you would be self-employed and dealing with 1099s, self-employment taxes, estimated earnings tax, etc... The tax they withhold is 25%-28% for sweepstakes winnings. So if you do earn more than $599 from a company, then plan on paying about 25% tax on it. Some of companies state your yearly maximum earning for surveys is $599, and avoid this completely. However, if you win a sweepstakes from one of the companies, then they will withhold taxes on your winnings (you must provide your SSN, in order to be paid). Most companies have an Frequently Asked Question section, where taxes may or may not be covered. Hope this helps, Louis

Are there websites that you can sign up on to be a product tester too?

Try: In Home Product Tests, Home Testing Institute (on the big list) I have also got some from: Survey Spot, Ipsos, My Survey, Synovate, and of course Bzz Agent.
Good Luck! I am testing at least one product per month for the last year. So they are easy to do.
