Ive been signing up for stuff and doing money making methods online for about 2 1/2 weeks now. In the mail this morning via ups i recieved a check for $1,345.34!! there wasnt anything else in the package, just the check. It is signed by miranda carlos. at the top it looks like this:
SEFLOARCA Mercantil Commurcebanking 120 Ahambria Circle 220 Alhambria Circle coral Gables, FL 33134 Coral Gables, FL 33134
signed by miranda carlos.
idk if this is a scam or real? i cant figure it out. ive been googling trying to find something and cant find ANYTHING. if anyone thinks they could help in any way please email me RIGHT AWAY because my boyfriend is trying to pressure me into cashing the check but i dont wanna get in trouble. please let me know a.s.a.p

This is the closest I got with google, www.google.com.ph/search?hl=en&q=%22220+Alhambra+Circle%22+%2Bmercantil&meta=&aq=fNo definate leads other than the fact that it is a bank. Based on the info you gave, I noticed alot of wrong spelling, is that on your side? Or is that what's really written. If that's whats really written, I have alot of suspicion. I'm sure Connie and the others would know, but it may help if you can take a picture, I just find this to be weird. Good thing you brought it up. I'm sure someone can make out of that.

My suggestion would be to call the bank that it's drawn on, and ask them about it.

Yeah I agree , I don't think you'll be in trouble for that, it ain't your fault that you received that check.

yea i was just trying to hurry with my email, so all of that bad spelling was just me! lol I havent cashed the check yet. A company called h&s finance company sent me an email today saying to keep 10% of check and send the rest to this lady i guess the company is in the uk. Dont know about it. I took the check to the bank and all they said was that they haven't seen a check like that in a while... they didnt see anything wrong with it. I called the bank and they gave me the routing number that should've been on the check and it IS there. Idk...ive heard alot of bad things about that kinda thing. So i dont really know what to do. so i just had them deposit the money and havent touched it. just wanna wait to make sure the check doesn't bounce and then i end up with -$1345.45 in my account. lol i dont really know what to do exactly. What do you guys think...sound good or bad? i couldnt really find anything on h&s finance company so idk. they said they are approved by the bbb but idk how to check for sure. The lady who recruited me said shes worked with them for 4 yrs and hasnt had a problem so maybe its real? idk any feedback would be nice! and thanks for your replies guys... maybe i just got lucky with this company? idk i sure hope so. lol

Scam,Scam,Scam.
There is no reason for a company of any size to use an individual as a go between to cash a check. And though it is not fair, you could be held responsible for wrong doing. Another take on this scam is that they have you sign for goods bought and they tell you where to send it. You keep some and you send the rest to them. You have just become a launderer of stolen property.
If it is too easy to make money, it is a really good chance it is not on the level. With money getting tighter all the time more and more of these scams come up. Banks don't always catch on to some of the scams. There is something called a float in the money system. A bank will clear a check. You use the money, much later, and I am talking sometimes weeks, the funds are disallowed. You are the only one that it will come back on. The bad guys are no where.
Talk to the manager of the bank, not a teller. Then I would report it to the post office. This is a standard scheme on the net. There are a whole group of net nerds that do nothing but play with these scammers. They act like they want to work with them and then string them along for as long as they can without actually doing anything with the fake check. It is a hobby for them. They keep them busy so they can't pick on anybody else. You can read about this on Scam.com.

oh jeez. i cant believe people can get away with trying to do stuff like this. thats so horrible! I told my b/f it was probably a scam because i thought it was when he came running into the bedroom this morning waving the check in my face! i told him it was a bad idea to take it to the bank but somehow i let him talk me into doing it. what if i just don't touch the money and tell someone about it now? would i get into any kind of trouble? I cant believe this, its so rediculoussss! I would be so emberrased to even talk to anyone about it. I feel so stupid, they would seriously just be like... whyyy would u be stupid enough to do this!? lol i dont even know what to do! this really sucks. but thanks for replying that was helpful but you really scared me! i dont wanna go to prison!! I wish all scammers would just dissapear off the face of the earth! lol

Consulting for help should never lead you to trouble. Just stay alert and avoid signing on things and cashing things that may lead to fingers pointing at you. I think Eileen's advice is spot on. I guess the only thing I can say other than that is to just relax and I'm sure things will be okay. And yes, those scammers should really disappear, they are getting more annoying and more cunning by the day (but some scammers are still obviously dumb hehe)

Since you have already deposited it, just let your bank no what happened.. DO NOT take any of the money and send it.
The bank will release the funds and show them in your account.. this DOES NOT mean the check has cleared... in a few weeks the check will be found to be bad or fake or whatever and they will take the money out of your acct.
By going to the bank now... maybe they will be willing to waive the bad check fee for you or they can help you get ahold of the bank the check is drawn on to get it all straightened out quickly.

this is definitely a scam. my b/f, against my advice, cashed and mailed the money to address of request (untrackable by the way). ten days later that wonder check came back as fake and she was out the money sent...and answering questions by her bank. The fraudulent check is now in the hands of the FBI. Contact your local police....

Shred the check and the letter. Delete any correspondence with the bank and the person. Don't seek anything out beyond that. It's a scam. Don't risk it.

I would add agian. When you can report and turn in these checks to the US Post Office, it does help to track these people down once in awhile. And everyone caught is one less trying to take advantage. Don't you feel bad about being taken advantage of. That just makes you a person that would never ever think of or do anything creepy like that. Hang in there.

My step-father got a check similar to this for over $3,000 in September or October of 2008. It came with a note saying that he had won a sweepstakes. Well, my mother was unemployed and they were hurting so, they cashed it and spent it. It bounced and now they are out the $3,000 and they have to pay that plus insufficient funds charges now too. So please be careful. It is getting worse with the economy as bad as it is.
