I heard a commercial on the radio claiming that you can sell items on Ebay for companies. You never see or store these items, but you simply sell them and earn income some how.
Has anyone tried this? If so, is it worth the time?

No, it's not worth the time, money or hassle.
I was an active eBay seller for years until recently and I can tell you that the commercial you heard was from a dropshipping company.
Yes, you don't have to store inventory but how can you really sell something if it's not in your possession? Also, what if the item sells and then you find out it's been backordered? If your customer paid via PayPal, you only have 7 days to ship the item(s) out to the customer or a dispute can be filed and the customer will get all their money refunded to them.
Just about any "informed" eBay seller will tell you to STAY AWAY from dropship companies.
I can go on and on about eBay selling, but I wanted to stay on topic. ;D

Thank you very much. The next time I see a drop shipping ad I'm going to throw eggs and tomatoes at it.

Oh yes! Do NOT try dropshipping unless you are willing to let your entire reputation be shot to heck... I seriously looked into for it awhile but at the same time I watched a lot of dropshipping sellers go right down the tubes.
If you want to sell... have the item IN HAND and READY TO SHIP...
