This is a hot topic around here the last couple of days: A Boise Police officer was cited for driving under the influence Saturday morning – but didn’t show up on the arrest list on the Ada County Sheriff’s Office website. The omission is leading some to ask if an officer is treated differently than the general public. www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories/ktvbn-apr2808-miller_follow.aacf7f13.html

Ya think?!? Of course they are treated differently! I have some friends who used to be cops & wow, the stories they tell.
To take this one step further & I'm sure this will rile some people up, but it kind of bothers me when we make such a HUGE deal of honoring police officers & firefighters who die the same way other people do. Don't get me wrong, they do a tremendous service to us & I very much respect them for the jobs they do, but when we do over the top memorials for 9/11 or any other "fallen heroes" memorials, it bothers me when the rest of the people who died aren't honored in the same manner. I know they went in to help but that was their job & the other people there were just doing their jobs too. Their lives aren't any more valuable than the rest of the victims, yet they are recognized much more. I know how this is probably coming across & again, I very much respect our heroes but they're people just the same as the stock brokers, the insurance agents, the secretaries, etc. I just wish everyone was honored in the same light as the "heroes". If someone has an explanation for the reason this is done, I'm absolutely open & want to understand it. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Here's my two cents. A fire fighter or police officer is risking their life daily. A stock broker, sorry, but they are not daily risking their lives.
Very often when a civilian is killed trying to be a nice guy, they are indeed honored and make front page news etc.
I don't think it's that one life is valued more than another, it's that one profession is at risk daily and the other is not.

We had a public official make the comment that police officers are given special consideration as in their own cell etc... so WHY wasn't this officer booked like a regular citizen but given his own cell or special accomodations?
I know the conversation took a turn and respect both viewpoints but want to get it back on target.

Connie,
I agree 100% he should have been booked.
