i'm not sure. i've done mlm before but that's a b***h for someone like me thet is not that good with people. even with a degree in psychology i have trouble with the way people act sometimes.
an affiliate program seems like a bit of work to get going but i got some time now that i'm unemployed. direct sales sounds good as long as i don't need to buy inventory and keep it stocked, etc.
i'm not sure which way to go, maybe both, but i don't have much money but a lot of time.
is it worthwhile to to try and sell my expertise in a particular subject or try to sell someone else's? what are some good direct sale opportunities? i'm not quite the marykay or avon type.
any help is appreciated!
Many questions with even more answers (place thoughtful smiley here).
A degree in psychology only lets you know why some people react the way they do, and does very little to help you deal with them. I have dealt with many programmers, who would have been much better off in either the housekeeping or food service industries (thank you Bill Murray).
While it would be nice to get everything handed out in a nice neat package, but why would you want something like that? You can buy one! Thousands of others have done so and flooded the market with the right-out-of-the-box work-at-home business systems. The prices will vary from a few hundred to thousands. I will not say that those systems did not work AS BEING ADVERTISED at one time, but I will say that their markets are over-saturated and they don't work that way now.
I once heard someone say that a person will change careers until they are content with what they do for what they are paid. You asked if you should sell your expertise or sell someone else's. I would advise that if you are going to sell something, then sell something that you believe in and are passionate about. Building an online business and clientèle is not something that happens overnight,
Slight interjection: You can buy an out-of-the-box Internet system guaranteed to make you $200 in website traffic by the end of your first day - this system only costs $1,200, and your $200 is guaranteed for only the first day. The way it works is that they have automated systems that create the traffic to the website for the first day, and pay you for that traffic. All subsequent traffic to your website is up to you to generate. So they make $1,000 free and clear. You can try and recoup your loss by becoming a salesperson for their system, and running the scam on others.
Both Connie and Audrey alluded to the fact that there are sections of the board that you should visit and read. In those sections, there are links that can be followed for more in-depth information and lots of experience to be had without having to recreate the wheel. So I would advise you listen to the ladies, and spend the next few days (lots of reading) becoming more familiar with direct sales and affiliate marketing.
My last advice is that you ignore all suggestions to sell Mary Kay!

thanks Louis, that's pretty much what i am doing now and it is probably apparent that i haven't read all there is , yet. but there is very little info, so far that specifies the mechanics involved in actually setting it up. they all want to sell their system or ebooks but no real nuts & bolts as to how to actually go about it. if i could find someone that could sit down and show me "go here, click that, etc." it would be a great help but i'm sure there aren't any people out there that have the time to do that, or the incentive.
i've read about partnering and perhaps i need to start there. unfortunately i'n in a sinking ship financially due to layoff and need to work fast to start generating some income. and, it seems i have too much spare time at the moment.
if there is anyone willing to partner up with me i would be able to do a lot of the leg work and definately make it worth their while once i get going. i'm not opposed to paying it forward (or backward).
