Yes this is a BIG topic for me.. so my question is..
Are you for it or against it... if you are against it.. do you want to see medicaid or medicare gone? If not... whats the difference between national healthcare and medicare/medicaid?

I am against it.
And I think that if medicare/caid were gone the costs of mediacl procedures and such would go down. They could no longer milk the system.
I would love to see everyone of a certain age get healthcare. OLDer people.
I dont want universal. WHO is gona pay for it?? We are. US. the working poor.

Even if medicare and medicaid were gone don't you think a LOT of the costs would continue to increase? The hospitals and ER rooms would still be bearing the brunt of the costs for the uninsured and a LOT of people go to the ER for things that aren't emergencies simply because they don't have insurance and can't go to a doctor.
Plus, you still have the pharmaceutical companies driving up the costs.. so by getting rid of medicaid and medicare you might actually be making the problem worse.

There is no difference between national healthcare and medicare/caid, that's why I'm against national healthcare. Getting healthcare at the public's expense should be limited to truly needy people. It shouldn't be given automatically to anyone, not even the elderly, and sure as hell not to illegals.

Well there is a difference between medicare and what the candidates are calling for in a national healthcare plan.. I DO think all american citizens (legal) SHOULD have quality healthcare.. we are just about the only nation that doesn't have it. There has to be SOMETHING that works.... We should never have a child or pregnant mother or anyone who can't go to the doctor because they don't have healthcare of the hundreds or even thousands of dollars it might cost.

My first day and I end up here, lol. I am for it. The way I see it I already pay fro medicare/caid for other people and insurance for my family, and I will have to continue to pay, at least if it was universal I would get to be covered too. At the very least I think ALL children should be have access to medical and dental care. I already do pay for it- I should get to use it too.

But all LEGAL children?? It pisses me off that people come to this country illegally, have babies, and their babies are automatic citizens.

I would love to see everyone of a certain age get healthcare. OLDer people. I dont want universal. WHO is gona pay for it?? We are. US. the working poor. with a few proper/precise changes in the way our system works (primarily: CORPORATE TAX being made directly proportional to corporate growth and excess, as well as NAFTA's inbound tax annulment being rescinded), universal healthcare would be cheaper than Canada's *and people there pay very little for their health care..i know because i have a friend in B.C. and he pays less per year than i do in S.S taxes* Also, medical procedures cost so much because the companies you are working with for your medical care are PRIVATE corporations with a profit margin in mind; half the time, doctors are doing stuff to you that is not required...it just helps them meet their corporate quota to stay on the payroll (nurses especially...my doctor is a non-profit independant contractor, and he never does anything that is not necessary; my medical bills are never huge for me, my wife, or my kids). Quite aside from the fact that our social security fund is filled with IOUs and people receiving checks from it are surprised at the minimal amounts, and the fact that we're losing jobs en masse, on TOP of the fact that the top 1% of the country earns/owns 90% of all the income/resources in the country shows just how "fair" this country has become. If you look up the definitions and past practiced examples of Capitalism, Fascism, and Dictatorship, you'll see the US has become a fine example (in practice) of those things; we've never been a Democracy (only in quote; we've always been a Republic).

I watched the live Town Hall Meeting yesterday on Health Care and was appalled at the number of people posting they were against it. On the surface I disagree with the proposed plan but have to admit I dont' understand it as a whole yet either. I know I am against his wanting us to be forced to have insurance through our employers because it would have cost us half of dh's salary to do that at his last job. Im against the $5000 tax credit because that isnt' enough to cover most families or really even make a difference and there is no guarantee that anyone would or could put that towards health care.
I don't think a portion of America understands what most people are up against.. and when you take into account that 2/3rds of Americans are FOR health care reform I think that sends a message to the rest or should.
I don't believe any parent should have to decide between a doctors visit or a weeks worth of food their children. I don't think any American should have to wait until they are at deaths door to go the doctor. I don't think we should have to take up emergency room resources because we NEED medical attention but don't have $150 to go to a doctors office that day.
I think the insurance companies are out of control and are allowing doctors to charge too much. Plain and simple. I think the pharmaceutical companies are hanging out in too many politicians pockets and being allowed to charge too much for drugs.
Yes we are a Country that boasts the ability for businesses to come in and make a profit but when it comes to health care, it's become ridiculous.. You can say.. get a better job... haha... Can EVERY AMERICAN get an 80K a year job or even a 40K a year job? NO... Can someone making less than 40K a year get on welfare? NO...
Even if you are paying $500 a month for insurance do you really believe you are covered? If you do, you better think again... Look at what Ravish30s daughter just went through... her dds doctor wanted to induce... a SIMPLE procedure.. the insurance company said no... Look at the people paying that amount who need procedures but the insurance company says "no" it's too expensive...
What the heck is insurance for if it isn't for simple procedures or life saving procedures... Our health care SUCKS.. and it does need to be changed..

I am about to become one of those people taking up ER resources. I have a super high deductible, $1500 each for the 4 of us. That is on top of the weekly premiums that don't really cover sh**. I have now used up the whopping $1500 HSA from his employer. The next $4500 comes out of my pocket, and they are empty. The dr office wants $ upfront before they see us. The ER takes everyone and I can get 69% dropped afterwards and get a payment plan on top of that. I can go to the ER 4 times for the cost of one office visit. Is it wrong? yes, but I will still be able to pay my mortgage and feed my kids, and the wait times are usually shorter. Gotta do what you gotta do.

I think they should not have it. Like they have now, those with limited income have medicaid. Raise the income level to get medicaid so that people can choose their own doctors and get their meds. UK and Canada have Healthcare and I heard from those people that their stamps are a nightmare.

I am so for it. Health care is already rationed. What is the difference between the government telling me what care I can get and an insurance company denying me. At least the govenment would be non profit.
The health insurance industry has taken the human equation out of everything they do. Their profits are only rivaled by the oil industry.
THe health of a nations people should not be a commodity to be traded on the open market.
Since I doubt we will ever get to a single payer system (what most of the rest of the capitalist world has) I hope that the choice of a public option is not drowned out by all the far out lies the far right machine and corporate profit centers have been pushing.

I am not trying to offend anyone here since all this is is just a discussion and these political discussions here are much friendlier than on the other board.
I will now ask a question and it may sound like a dumb question. Since this heathcare did not go through when Clinton was in the White House, what is different now that it will help? I mean I know that the economy is much worse but their planning did not work then so they could not get it for us.
