Last night was not as bad as the night before. We only hit 15 below! WooHoo!! Heat Wave!! That's what happens when you live in the northwoods of Wisconsin. I'm going to be a frozen popsicle before spring comes!!

I just couldn't stand it really. It has been in the 20's here throughout the day and it is miserable! Today we finally saw the sun and it felt more like 30.. Maybe spring is here? I HOPE SO!

I wonder when they're going to get their act together in New Orleans and take care of all the mess that is still not cleaned up?

Yes,but there are a lot of residents that are wondering why the money spent on Mardi Gras couldn't have been put to a better use. I have been watching CNN every morning, and yes they are covering Mardi Gras, but they are also interviewing a lot of the people down there in Louisiana and Mississippi that are not getting their insurance money, or only a small portion of it,to rebuild. It's so heartbreaking.

Geeze....you guys make me feel just BAD sitting here in shorts with the windows open. We even had to run the AC in the car today. Having said that though........there is always the downside....which is: Jan...about the hurricane insurance payments... it's just not unusual for these things to take a long time. Six months would be a 'dream come true' scenario and most people just don't luck up and get that. The problem is that if you live in a coastal area, you have your homeowners insurance. Along with that insurance it is your responsibility to ALSO chose and pay for additional hurricane coverage, as well as chose and pay for additional flood coverage. Depending on where you live, you may not qualify for flood coverage (such as myself). So, if a hurricane hits and the insurance company decides I have flood damage, rather than hurricane damage, I don't get that compensation. I would then have to revert to my basic homeowners insurance and hope I was smart enough to pay for FULL MARKET VALUE REPLACEMENT. If I cheaped out and didn't pay for that sort of coverage.....I'm screwed. Many of these people are just whining for public sympathy. I have no idea why they want to rebuild there in the first place. I live in a flood plane, but I'm not UNDER sea level with a half baked levee. LOL! Plus, there is absolutely NO GUARANTEE this won't all happen again next year. We expect a very heavy hurricane season because the winter was too mild and the water is too warm. Okay...now doesn't your cold cold weather not seem so bad? ?? At least you'll face the summer without worrying that your house will end up in splinters.

That last statement may or may not be true,Merika. When summer rolls around we have to worry about tornados coming through in the area where we live. Last summer one touched down about 6 miles from us. We get some pretty bad summer storms up here. On top of that,we have to worry about forest fires too! Either way,our house has a chance of burning down,or becoming a pile of splinters. LIFE IS GRAND!

You know I fully understand about the homeowners and renters insurance and I don't feel too bad for the people who don't take extra coverage. I personally don't have renters insurance and I KNOW that if a fire or flood or anythign else hits I am out of luck. What gets me though is that in the case of Katrina as well as 911 TONS of people donated money to help with relief. These people should not be waiting for insurance payments. We all donated enough that each family should have gotten a pretty decent size amt of money. On top of that you have all the govt assistance. Where on earth does this money end up? I know for a fact that during 911 a LOT of the money that was donated to the red cross and salvation army did NOT make it to the families. Simply because it was just donated and not designated to go to the 911 fund. did we have the same thing happen during Katrina and Rita?
