Hi Connie,
This is my first time on this website. It's very interesting and informative.
I have a question about eBay. I was thinking about selling some items, just to give it a try. I've heard horror stories about PayPal and would like to sidestep them. I saw a Merchants add where you can sign up free with them and use them instead of PayPal. They also accept all major credit cards. Any thoughts??
I too am looking to work from home. I'd rather work "smart and hard" for me than somebody else.
Thanks for your help, Kate

Thats a tough one.. are you only going to be selling for the merchant? Personally.. Ive used Paypal for over three years and never had a problem. I did set up a seperate bank account for my paypal just to be on the safe side because I have heard the stories. Anyone here who has a paypal horror story?

Connie,
Thanks for getting back to me. No, I wasn't going to sell for the merchant. I thought I was the Merchant. I need to do more reading. I was thinking of doing eBay as a business, but wanted to try it out first with just selling a few things. I would also open another bank account just for this reason. Thanks for your help,
Kate

I was just thinking.. have you looked into Google Checkout? I don't know much about it yet but that might be an alternative.. sorry about the merchant thing.. I thought you meant it was a merchants personal checkout system..didn't realize that was the name

Let me know what you think about it.. I would be interested to find out if you think it is better or basically the same as paypal.

There is somewhere in the ebay bylaws where it says if you use Google Checkout they will ban your account.

This seems to be an old board, but I am going to post anyway. Maybe somebody can help.
I tried selling on e-bay one time. I sold my item, it was going well. The lady paid through paypal which seemed to be going alright, but a couple of days later Paypal said I denied the money. We tried twice more, it did the same thing. I finaly just let her her have it since she refused to send a check. I called paypal but they couldn't help me, and I couldn't understand the gal on the other end anyway. She didn't speak english very well. (A pet peave of mine, but that could be a totaly different blog) I haven't tried since. Can anyone help?

WHy were you denied the money? was there a reason? was it an echeck? And dear, WHY did you send them item? She won and bid, but never paid. And if you had an account with paypal you should have been able to accept her money. Maybe you need to be signed up to take credit cards. She could have gotten you a money order. I dont know the whole story, and cant make a decision based on your info above. BUT I am smelling SCAM. I hate that you sent it to her. and I really hate tat she was such a theif she took it with out a second thought and never attemtped to pay you. Heck I have received CASH in the mail. I have even sent it.

The first (and only thing) that comes to mind is that you had a basic account and she paid with a credit card? The first time it happened to me I got an email stating that I needed to bump my paypal up to a business or premier account in order to accept that kind of payment. If I didn't do that then the payment would be denied. I agree with Chelle.. I can't imagine accepting an item I had bid on and never paid for! First rule.. DO NOT send the item until you have payment

I sent the item because paypal told me she made her payment, It told her I denied the payment three days later. I agree she should have at least sent a money order when I Informed her that I was new and didn't know why it happened, but I felt like I had done something to screw the transaction up and I didn't want to make her angry and leave bad feedback.

I will have a look at my account and see if it says anything about accepting credit cards. If that is the case they really should make it more clear that you need the special account. Maybe it is and I just didn't catch it.
