I am a big advocate for being frugal. We have 5 kids and only one income. I have done so much research on things - boy I wish I could get paid for it!!
anyhooo- I have always believed that the cleaners we use in our homes are really very toxic to us. Ya'll have seen that Ionic Breeze infomercial that says the home is more poluted than the outdoors?? It is true.
Anyone who uses anything Lysol- PLEASE STOP!! Did you know this is a registered pestiside?? Not a household cleaner as we are meant to think!!! There is a website from our government that is publically available to us, the consumer, that requires these companies by LAW to show/tell exactly what's in their product, how it's registered, etc.
And not to forget Bleach- while it's o.k. to use in the laundry - don't clean with it. You all know how horrible it is was the first time you breathed it in - it can be devastating to a childs lungs.
I thinks it's great that you guys are sharing your home cleaning recipes, cuz I do the same thing!! we have had less doctor visits due to breathing problems with the kids in just the last 2 years I have been using vinegar and baking soda to clean with. While my DH doesn't fancy the smell of vinegar, it goes away rather quickly and does get the job done at a fraction of the cost!!
I could go on with all the nasty effects of chemical household cleaners.......but I won't !

On a similar note, I read some article that said microfiber cloths are good to clean with, without even using cleaners. So I asked for some at my house warming. Haven't gotten to try them yet, but I hope that it's true. [/b]

I've been using it for years so I am just too afraid to search and find out the truth... tell me... "closing my eyes tightly here!"

I just read this tip this morning. Spray a small amount of your favorite perfume on a lightbulb, and then when you turn on the light, you have a fragrant aroma in the air. Haven't tried it yet, though.

I remember that one! I never tried it because I am a paranoid personality and I just KNEW teh lightbulb would explode... I imagine if you sprayed it on BEFORE turning on the light it wouldn't be a problem.. It sure takes me awhile to catch on.. lol

I have used Vinegar for years for cleaning, and a paste of baking soda and vingegar. It works rather well but I miss the smells of Bleach and Lysol. LYSOL? that brings up a story -------- When I gave birth to my daughter ( who will be 40 this year) the hospital suggested taking a warm bath for the stitches and then putting a little Lysol on them to keep down infection. On the way home from the hospital--I asked my DH to stop and pick some up. I did not mention what for and he assumed it was to put in the diaper pail (cloth diapers in those days, girls) So, when I took my bath, and put on the lysol I felt pretty good and went to be with the family----DH kept saying that he could smell pine trees, and did not know where the smell was coming from-------guess who bought PINE Fragrant LYSOL? I never used it again. LOL
