I was referred here by a friend to avoid scams. I am curious about mystery shopping. Do you know how it works? I know you can eat, shop and stay in hotels ...but how does it work? Do you spend your own money and later get reimbursed when you turn in your report?

angelgaljwb, Welcome to the Board! When you have questions about a particular subject you should go to that forum, in this case, the Mystery Shopping forum, and post them there, so others can read and answer/learn from the post. I have tested out Mystery Shopping and had lots of fun doing it. However, there is a lot of paperwork involved, and you can get certified if you want to - I did for fun, and it wasn't very difficult. The amount and types of Mystery Shopping available to you depend largely on where you live, and the company(ies) you have signed up with, and been accepted by. The way it works: 1. They post an opportunity on their job board / or send out an email for ones that need to be done quicker (these have bonuses). 2. You apply to do the Mystery Shop. 3. They accept your offer, and then you have to download the paperwork and instructions. 4. Follow the instructions for the Mystery Shop using your own money. 5. Fill out the paperwork and send/fax/email it in with copies of your receipt(s). 6. If they have no questions on your paperwork, then they will pay you the promised amount for the Mystery Shop plus your expenses ( it takes about a month to be reimbursed and paid). *** Remember that if you get paid more than $600 from any single Mystery Shop company, then they will send you a 1099, and you will have to pay self-employment taxes; which are very STEEP. *** So I recommend joining many companies and keeping record of each, so you don't go over the limit and end up with having to pay taxes just for making a little extra fun money. I used an Excel spreadsheet, and joined about 10 companies for my testing of Mystery Shopping. What was my favorite Mystery Shop? I can't tell you that, because you are not allowed to divulge where and when you shopped. Hope this helps! Louis
