Ok, so I've never really had an issue with my weight before. I'm tall, and have never been overweight. Now, all of a sudden, I find myself bigger than I've ever been before. I only need to lose 10 or 15 pounds, but am having a bit of a hard time with it. I know what everyone says- diet and exercise. What I want to know is, what works for you? The little things. I'm not in the position to diet, per say. And serious exercise isn't an option right now either. Any suggestions? Thanks guys and gals!

I'm doing a bit good with what I am doing right now. I got the advice about breakfast from my "real age" website and the advice about breakfast and lunch being added to it from an article in Allure magazine.
Here it goes. Eat the same thing for breakfast everyday (at least 5 days of the week and don't go overboard on weekends). I eat different varieties of instant oatmeal at just 150 calories. (I do eggs and or waffles on the weekend)
I am just starting the lunch thing since it made so much sense to me. The magazine suggested a colorful salad (watch the dressing) along with tuna or chicken(your choice)
The common theme in the two source materials was that by taking the choice aka. stress out of the decisions you just eat what you need with no mistakes about amounts or bad impulse choices.
Of course keep snacks to fruits, some nuts, and vegetables. Drink water when you think your hungry at a non meal time.
Hope it helps, I going slow at 8 pounds down in 5 weeks. But it is easy and seems to work.

Thats some great advice. The best I can offer that is working for me is to watch the "empty" calories. For instance soda, I cut down to two cans a day last week and I can see the difference. Fill up on salads before eating the high calorie portion of the meal. Don't deprive yourself. If you want a candy bar, eat half. Same with donuts and other junk food.
IUnfortunately, as we get older our metabolism changes, drastically it seems.

What works for me is portion size. I tend to eat way to much of what I like best. That would be comfort foods like pasta. I could keep going back for pasta all day long. Have to watch how much I eat of everything and keep the portion size the right size.
Also pay attention to carbs. Makes a big difference for me and my weight. I try to eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables. Also drink a lot of water.
And of course exercise. Have to get my heart to pumping fast. Really makes a difference for me to get atleast thirty minutes of vigorous exercise every day.

hi. 11 yrs ago i found myself at 220 and in a miserable marriage. i made a new years resolution i was going to lose weight. so i started jan 1st. by the end of october the same year i had lost 97 lbs. it was long and hard but i never quit, and because i was in a bad relationship the more i could stay away and exercise the better i felt. he did not support me at all and assumed i was losing it for other reasons than for myself. i had to change my whole way of living in order to control the weight. every now and then i feel like i will put on a little bit and immediately realize where i'm going wrong. i've just come to the conclusion i will be someone that has to watch my weight from now on and that doesn't bother me. i do however eat approx six small meals a day. seriously. as long as my metabolism is up it's fighting the bulge. and i agree with the portion intake as well. i do eat the things i like but in moderation. i'm not one that watches fat and calories and so forth. i drink lots of water and when i get tired of water i mix my drink singles in my bottled water so i'm constantly taking in water. i also try to walk a little every day. not any set distance just enough to keep my heart rate up about 30 min. it seems to be working. i've kept my weight off now for 11 yrs. i went from a size 19 to a size 5/6 and i'm still there. u've just gotta make up ur mind to stick with it. i splurge every now and then but for the most part i try not to stray to far bc i regret it later. i found it alot harder weighing myself every day too. it's discouraging. if i felt like i had lost inches i didn't care about the number. eventually i got rid of my scales and don't even own one now. i wish you luck bc it's a neverending battle for me. but not one that i can't beat. feel free to ask me any questions any time. i'm very good at giving support. again, good luck.......
