During Summer vacation we all hear it ; I'm Bored !!
I thought we can list what we do to keep our kids from being so bored. Things other than DS, computer games and the Wii.
I made each child a 'summer journal'. I bought a plastic folder and filled it w/ notebook paper. ( it has the things so you can use the paper w/ holes)
They wrote on the cover w/ a marker MY SUMMER JOURNAL. They decorated them w/ foam stickers.
I said the pockets can be for postcards, if we go somewhere, outside our city.
The 1st page will list their summer reading list. They write down what books they read, if they liked the book or not.
They must write in their journal at least once a week. I'll take pictures during the summer. They can add them, gluing the pics on construction paper. I bought marbled construction paper at the $1 store.
Maybe I'll have the 2nd page be Summer Movies. (I like that idea.)

Awesome Ideas! Im going to steal the Summer Journal. It is SO hard to get miss katie to read on her own. She loves reading with us but gets bored reading by herself.
I wish I had some Summer boredom busters to share.. so far it's been me entertaining her or her having friends over. We have planned a camping trip the weekend of the 11th-12th of July.
We've done the big bubble blowing, sidewalk chalk, etc. We go to the parks and swimming too. For everyday summer boredom busters though... I NEED ideas.

I bought a work bood and Nicole has to do 4 pages a day. There is a summer web site for the kids tio do reading from school and the teacher can see what they are doing. She does about 3-4 books a day. There are questions to be answered. When it is completed they go to the next letter and continue.

I'm not into the crafty things. My creative side comes out while playing things like Lego's with him. I try to show him there's more to them than just what the instructions show you how to build.
We couldn't go out for so long because of the heat, so it was a lot of time inside playing with toys, watching cartoons, playing on the computer or video games. I like to limit the computer & video games though. I try to show him there's more to childhood than PS2, Wii or DS.
Living next to the park helps. We'll go so he can play on the playground or ride his bike. If I have to mow the grass or work in the yard, he likes to ride up & down the street. And since we're at the end of a dead end road, it gives him a lot of room.
Now that the weather's cooled some, we'll start playing catch. It'll be fun but also improve him for baseball without actually having to feel like "ball practice."
We like to get in at least 1 or 2 camping trips, but haven't been able to yet.

Sun PrintsVery cheap and easy to craft. This is for all ages. All you need is dark construction paper, the sun and time Have your child look in your yard for rocks, leafs, sticks, etc Arrange them on the construction paper in any design they want to make. Leave in the sun for an hr or more. The sun will fade the paper, leaving cool 'prints' when you remove the objects you set on it.

LOL! I let my son who's 5 1/2 yrs old play the xbox 360 arcade games like freesin frinzy or whatever you call that fish game, sonic (he loves sonic!) and sports games. I don't allow him to be on too long though. He does take his little breaks. I plan to get him a p2p where he can just play with while we are traveling.
