Michael Phelps lost two of the five races he entered in a North Carolina swimming meet this past weekend, after a three month suspension for smoking marijuana. Some people may say he deserves it or shouldn't even be competing anymore, but I say he is only human. The problem with setting someone on a pedestal to be worshiped, is that when they prove that they are just human, people get upset with them. My feelings are that he made a mistake, served out the punishment handed down to him, and I am glad he is continuing on with his swimming career. What do you think

This guy certainly paid the price for getting caught. In my state you might have to pay a small fine, about $250 and have all the jail time suspended for a first time offense. Phelps lost millions in endorsement money plus looking like a total moron in front of the whole country-a lot of people freaked out and overreacted in my opinion. (Geez, smoking dope in a college dorm, who would have thought that! Next they will be drinking BEER and screwing around! ) I guess with fame there come a high standard. Make a mistake and everyone will know. Plus there is a tendency to tear down those we hoist up, very strange. Which leads me to the question-fame or fortune? I will take fortune and anonymity. Give me the money and I will disappear ;D

I will agree that there was a lot of overreaction but I also don't think he was exposed as "only human" and I don't think it equates to the same as drinking beer and screwing around in a college dorm.
The bottom line is the law is "the law". He signed a contract saying he would NOT do drugs. He broke the contract AND the LAW.. yet we should all just say.. oh poor boy.. he's only human? BULL CRAP..
Does fame and notoriety give you the right to make your own laws? What about the guy SELLING the drugs.. is he "only human" as well?
So now I will hear.. but it's JUST marijuana.. it's not meth or coke.. again.. where do we draw the line.
Funny how everytime a football player or baseball player gets busted for steroids, no one yells.. hey he's "only human".
BTW: Im not picking on Louis for saying that.. It's just the same phrase I've heard over and over again since it all happened.
