Ok, I've been searching on DH side for 4months now. I keep hitting a brick wall. Dead ends. My mother-in-law always told us she was adopted. Well it turns out thats not true. (She is very hush hush about what she knows) Back in 1928 she was born to Betty(birth mother) & her mother(Betty's mom) made her give her to Betty's friends (or possible sister & husband or they my be relatives.(Not sure)) anyway things really get complicated and now DH & I have some really old letters that we are finding this out from. I have found out that MIL was never legally adopted. Her birth mother wanted her back so badly but her mother said she had disgraced the family and she had to live with the consequences. The pain of this women writing to my MIL's parents is saddening. But as I said I keep coming up at a stopping point. I found out (from the letters that she married in 1930 to Frank Bushnell. Searching on line I have found out that she is buried at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ogdensburg NY. That's where it ends. I can't find her husband or if they had any children. She dose refer to "the kiddies" in a couple of letters to her sister Lizzie, and she never says her mother or father's name. I have really been searching hard because we would like to know about medical facts for the family. DH's mom has had 5 open heart surgeries over the years and we just want to know who's side of the family it's on.
I'm also noise (he-he) and want to know if he has any other living "blood" relatives living and would possible like to get in touch with them.
I would love to know what you all think my next move is. The letters are so wonderful to read. She even writes to Rose (the woman who raised her daughter (MIL)) how she went to the attorneys office on Broadway and waited for 6hrs. for Rose & Mary to come so she & her husband could get her daughter back and pay her $600.00 for boarding her for 2 yrs. Rose never showed up.
I am so into this stuff and I can't stop now. I Need your help.
Thanks so much for having this thread Connie, and everyone who has added to the sites to look up as I didn't know where to start and I started here. (I can post the letters if you all would like to read them.)
