For several years now I've been obsessed with Las Vegas. I spend a lot of time researching before visiting and it really pays off.
Since you asked about Reno, Connie, I went to one favorite sites for Vegas information, CheapoVegas, and got the link to their Reno page:

I haven't read the Reno stuff yet, but if it's like the Vegas side it's a fairly accurate overview of the city and a good way to find budget friendly activities. Be sure to check out the Bargain Bin page where people post the details of the deals they got. Sometimes they will post promo codes, or tell you what you have to do to get the bargain rates.
The tips about the slot clubs and getting room offers certainly apply in Reno. Even if you are only planning on putting $20 in a machine it would be to your advantage to have a slot club card in the machine. A lot of the time if you hit a big jackpot there is a bonus and/or other benefit if you have your players club card in the machine.
Another great way to get more bang from your gambling buck is to look for a promotion called WinCards. You pay $10 for $20 worth of chips. You can't just turn around and cash them out, of course. They have to be played in the casino. But when you play them at blackjack or craps they pay you real money in return. Sometimes I'll do this at a couple different places. You get a lot more play out of your $10 (obviously) and sometimes that little extra play keeps you in action long enough for lady luck to find you.
I usually go to the various casino websites and check their Promotions page to see if they have WinCards or any other promotions that I can take advantage of. You'd be surprised how often I've found instant double your buy-in offers
Growing up in the San Franscisco bay area I made many, many trips to Reno. I haven't been in more than 15 years now so all my personal knowledge specific to Reno is way out of date.
I hope you find CheapoReno helpful.
