I realize I'm behind the times considering this first showed on HBO back in 2001, but I finally watched all of these and can't speak highly enough of it.
The History Channel was running all 10 parts Sat. & Sun. I watched some and taped some and finally watched the last couple.
If you haven't seen it and you're into history (especially WWII) watch this mini series.
Here's the summary:
This is the story of "E" Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division from their initial training starting in 1942 to the end of World War II. They parachuted behind enemy lines in the early hours of D-Day in support of the landings at Utah beach, participated in the liberation of Carentan and again parachuted into action during Operation Market Garden. They also liberated a concentration camp and were the first to enter Hitler's mountain retreat in Berchtesgarten. A fascinating tale of comradeship that is, in the end, a tale of ordinary men who did extraordinary things.
I'd also like to add a quote from Maj. Richard D. Winters, who commanded E Company.
At the end of the series, during an interview with Major Winters and right before they fade to black, he spoke of a fond memory.
“I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day; when he said, ‘Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?’ Grandpa said, No, but I served in a company of heroes.”
I cried like a baby.

Without a doubt one of the best things ever produced for TV or the cinema for that matter. Incredible story. What makes it great is that it is a true story. I love survival stories and war is all about survival. I subscribe to HBO just so I can watch the mini-series they produce. John Adams from last year is excellent, my whole family watched it every week and loved it. OC you might want to read the Band of Brothers book by Ambrose-excellent!
