Since 'Tis the Season', we went shopping the other day. It was cold and blustery. As we were walking from the parking lot to the store, there was a man ringing a bell for the Salvation Army. He was sitting in a wheelchair, with flannel and woolen blankets wrapped around him. However, what really got my attention was he was wearing a hat that said "Proud Korean Veteran", he had no arms, and was ringing the bell by holding it in his mouth and nodding vigorously. I stopped to talk to him and asked him "How are you doing?". He told me "Pretty good" (had to remove the bell for his answers). He then told me he has lost both of his arms in the Korean War, and the Salvation Army really helped him when he got back. So every year, he pays them back by ringing the bell for their fund raising drives. I told him that he didn't have to pay them back, but he said he felt he owed them. So I bid him good day and continued into the store. When we were leaving, I noticed a crowd in the area where the man had been ringing the bell. I went over and saw that he had fallen over; his wheelchair was on its side and his blankets were splayed on the ground, all around him; he was justing laying there gasping for air. Just then, the paramedics arrived and started to administer to him. One of the paramedics, stood up, looked at the crowd and asked if any of us knew him. I just had to say "No, but his face sure rings a bell!". If you think this really happened - Here's your sign! When I told it to the Spousal Unit, she got tears in her eyes, and then she hit me...
