Well has she found anything so exciting? My maiden name is Chesser, they came from the Georgia. So, her search led her to here: sherpaguides.com/georgia/okefenokee_swamp/sidebars/bernice_chesser_roddenberry.htmlTHERE is her CASTLE!! HAHAHA! It's only a couple of hours away. I haven't been there since I was a teen and equally as infuriated that I came from Georgia swamp people. To make it worse, we attended a big family reuinion there. She is now looking for ALTERNATE relatives by searching out all possible names on her Dad's side.

You know with some paint that place would be awesome! I always wanted a porch like that! I wonder if anyone still lives there? I oughta just be a hillbilly somewhere huh? Give me a rickety ole porch, some iced tea, and throw on a pot of collard greens and I will be just fine! LOL... Tell her to keep looking there is a castle with her name on it SOMEWHERE...

The house is part of a state park now. There are other building around also. The Okefenokie (spelling???) Swamp is there with lots of nature trails and air boat rides. When we moved to Jacksonville, Fl...I have no idea why I never thought to take them up there since it's so close until she found the link and asked me about it.
You sound like a woman after my own heart. Short of the computer and a flushing toilette....I would give up all other amenities in order to live in a cracker house, on a small farm, just doing my own thing. I LOVE those houses and had older relatives who still lived in them. Too bad when I was younger I didn't appreciate their beauty and snatch up one when they went up for sale.
I've thought about building one after I retire. Not a NEW version either...just get someone to build it like they used to build houses. Wouldn't that just be wonderful??

That is actually very funny. Just the other day I was asking dh if it we couldn't just find a builder who builds OLD houses I was just laughing at the thought of what a builder will say when I take him to some old house and say "thats what I want"... LOL.. I love the old looks. We have some beautiful old houses in one part of town and I want one like that but I could never afford the prices they want down there!

Hey Connie, I did a little family research a few years ago, I found Great great, great Grandma was a full blooded indian, cherokee, I have names wrote down somewhere, I will try to find them. also I believe mostly irish and italian. I am going mostly by Daddy's side of the family because I have never been able to get info out of mom. but Grandma told me that because of the indian, if i can get ahold of the papers and prove that its in us, the reservation will put us through college, buy a house for us and so forth. but Im kinda a dunce in that area and couldnt figure out how to do it all. I will see what I can find. Oh and also that Rash used to be rashea. (pronounced Rusha)

Thats interesting, Im sure Jen would like to see what you came up with. She has great great great grandpa James Rash married to Mary Lecretia (Laxson) and that isn't an indian name.. going back 7 greats there is a John Rash married to a Mica Wilson but that doesn't sound indian either. She has taken it clear back to Thomas who was born in England and married Mary Thorel and they are 8 greats to us. I know Aunt Frances has done a lot of research so we are going to call her and see what she has too.

Our Wilson name was traced back to Scotland by my now deceased uncle. I have a copy of my family/clan coat of arms. One of my brothers has our Clan Plaid.

Yesterday I got on the Delta County,MI Genealogical Society website because I wanted answers to a lot of questions I had concerning family members that are now deceased. I never knew my Grandfathers, they died before I was born. I barely remember my Grandmother on my dad's side, she died in 1954. My mom and her mother never got along,so I never knew much about her either, and I had a brother and sister that died from tragic accidents before I was born, and my parents very rarely spoke of them. I got some answers from the records that were posted online, but I see I need to email them for paperwork on what I found. I also want to take a trip to Escanaba,MI where my family origionally came from before I was born. They moved to Wisconsin shortly after the deaths of my siblings and my dad's father. I guess there were too many memories there. I want to see the gravesites of my brother and sister. They were very young when they died. My sister was 6 or so,and my brother was 9 or ten,and he was my parent's first born. I guess that I just want to fill in the empty spaces in my family history, because I was the last of 7 children and knew the least about my family's roots.

Were you able to find any helpful information on your grandparents or siblings? How did your brother or sister die? Were the deaths close to each other? Im a nosy one but you already know that I bet your parents had a really tough time with that. Im not a talker when it's painful either and it drives my oldest nuts.
