First of all, we appreciate your participation in the Mixer telephone speech study. Your participation is making great contribution to speech technology development and education. I hope you had a lot of fun talking to "strangers" on various interesting topics.
I'm writing to introduce to you two new telephone speech collection projects we are conducting: Fisher Spanish and CallFriend2, both of which are under the same umbrella: LVDID (Language, Variety and Dialect Identification).
Fisher Spanish is open to Spanish speakers in the US and Canada. A Fisher Spanish participant will be talking to another participant on the phone and you'll be speaking Spanish. This is very similar to Mixer (and Fisher English), though you may deviate from suggested topics. You may participate in up to 25 calls. For details, please visit
www.ldc.upenn.edu/FisherSpanish
CallFriend2 is collecting four (4) English varieties, four (4) Chinese dialects and twenty-three (23) other languages. Please see the complete list of languages at the end of the message.
A CallFriend2 participant talks to a friend/family member in the US or Canada on the phone using a shared native language/dialect on anything they like. Because the two participants must know each other and we need demographic information from both, registration is done in pairs. As we collect only one call from each participant, we are offering three (3) different compensation options to make participation more attractive: (1) direct payment; (2) lottery drawing; and (3) donation to a non-profit organization.
For details about CallFriend2, please visit
www.ldc.upenn.edu/CallFriend2
you have a choice of 3 payment options, the one for cash is
Direct Payment. If you choose this option, you will be paid $8 for your call. Payment will be made approximately in two months after your call has been audited as successful, assuming the required tax document(s) has been received by then
