I decided to get serious about it so yesterday I read up all I could on the weight watchers program. I've been trying it out today and so far I really like it!
The one thing I discovered.. all the foods I love all have the highest point values.. well of course they do! However I've been learning how to still get to eat what I like but to make adjustments so that I can stay within the point value.

Tacos.. LOL... Enchiladas... haha... all the things that have high points!
Okay... we eat a lot of both beef and chicken so some good recipes would be much appreciated! I am really liking it! Earlier I checked the points on the salmon after I decided to make it and it was 7 points! I was very saddened but then realized it was 7 points for 6 oz's well I only had about two ounces plus my salad which I was careful with the dressing so the whole dinner was about 5 points and probably less... so I have a few extras left... Plus I am working on the flexplan so I have a few extra points a day. Breakfast was the most depressing.. two poached eggs and two slices of toast with just a touch of butter was around 7 points but that's also why I like this plan.... I am more concious of how much butter and mayo and things I am using.
All in all it has been a REALLY easy day as far as dieting goes. I don't even have to give up Pepsi!

Ok...tonight I'll post some recipes for you in the recipe section....a few hints on the breakfast....we switched to egg beater type products. You can't have a poached egg, but it's far lower in points. I will fry an egg and then throw away the yolk. I'll make egg salad with 3 eggs and throw away 2 of the yolks. All of this helps cut down points.
On the bread, look for wheat and grain and high fiber. There are a few brands we buy. I like the 12 grain much better than the 7 grain.
Mayo...we use low fat or light. One is a bit less in calories than the other.
Go to the meetings. You'll tons and tons of ideas there. Ok...recipes coming up tonight

Thanks Audrey! I added a recipe thread to the dieters board here.
You are SO lucky to be able to make changes like you do. I refuse to eat "fat free" or "light" anything. Terrible huh? My thought process is that I need to make long term changes and I don't like the taste of low fat or diet anything. I am willing to make changes in how I eat though so it's a start. For instance instead of using two tablespoons of mayo I can get by and still have the flavor with just a tsp. Instead frying eggs in oil.. poach them in water (I LOVE the yolks) and instead of two pieces of toast just have one.
Yesterday I had a small hamburger and used just a tiny amt of mayo but added a lot of mustard for flavor and then skipped the cheese or anything else fatty. I also tore off and threw away all the extra bread from around the hamburger to cut the calories a bit.

Connie,
Unfortunately I'm about to leave for the night, but I'll try tomorrow to post those recipes for you.
Here's some hints for you though...
You say you don't like low fat mayo...have you tried it??? There are 3 types of mayo, light and low fat. I We used to use only the regular...then we switched to light...then we switched to low fat. It was a process.
Bread....check calories on bread. Not all breads are the same. I only eat wheat buns for hamburgers and hot dogs.
Eggs...there are low cholesterol eggs...not sure how they meausure up in calories and fat.
I'll try to keep sharing other tips like this as the days pass...and I promise you a few recipes tomorrow straight from the WW cookbook.

Connie, I try a lot of low fat foods. Some are great and some are awful. I would say give them a chance and you'll find some great ones.

Are you familiar with Watkins? I've had an account with them for years now. They make both a butter salt and a cheese salt that are awesome on baked potatoes. Do you have Trader Joes? They have a Cilantro salad dressing that is AWESOME. Try it on a baked potatoe. If you prefer another type of dressing, try non fat dressing of your choice on your potatoes.

About tacos....Connie, you know I love them, love them, love them. I just eat one when I make them. If I want more...I'll eat the insides without the shell and without cheese

Funny you mention that! Today when I looked at the points for each ingredient I found that the way I make them and just by cutting back on the cheese and using the fat free sour cream I could have two for just around 7 points... well when dinner time came around I was happy with one! Let me tell you though.. that one taco tasted SOOOO darn good! Im already looking forward to breakfast.. lol

Connie, If you like ice cream, Weight Watchers makes several items. I find them at Albertsons here. I know other stores carry some products. They have ice cream sandwiches, fudgicles, toffee bars and more here Each item is either 1 or 2 points.
