Congrats Eileen, I remember the first time I voted! And my mother made sure that I exersized my right to do so. I was in college, and she would call to remind me (like college kids don't pay attention to politics during an election year.) However, she and I voted for different candidates, so we cancelled each other's vote out... Louis

When I was in Germany for a military exercise, a few of us had some t-shirt we had brought with us (as a joke). So so we went to our Battalion Commander, wearing our t-shirts, and asked him for an off-base pass. He did not think we were funny at all. All the t-shirt had was a mushroom cloud on the front, and the words "HAPPINESS is being a NUCLEAR POWER" on the back. We never did get that pass... But it was funny, huh?!

When I was trapped in Germany on my way out of Turkey, way back when I found them to not take that sort of thing as funny. But then again, they put sauerkraut on everything.

Hey Connie, You're absolutely right. We could learn a lot from the Germans and their way of life. I didn't mean to imply that I didn't love the country and it's people, just their ways of gov't. How bad can a country be that has a party for everything? Ex: When the cows return from the mountains for the winter season, they have a wine fest! Miss the Kris Kringle markets as well...Could you imagine having cigerette machines posted along sidewalks everywhere you go? In this country, they'd have them vandalized and ripped out of the ground by the roots. And I think it would behoove a lot of down-town businesses if they were to make the center of town and their mainstreets into a walk-platz. Our downtown is always complaining about lack of business, and it's mostly because their businesses are not easily accessable. Duh!!!!! Thank you for reminding me what a great country we are in, it's easy to lose sight of things with all the hooplah lately!
