What are they? What am I doing wrong?
As marketers are we looking to make money from squidoo directly (not happening for me).. or are we looking to drive traffic and make money from our affiliate programs? (could be happening for me).

Well I have a sneaking suspician that the great Glitch is our resident Squidoo expert.. but I will try to give you my own impressions so far:
When I started my first Lens, I treated it like a blog... this has turned out to be both good and bad in my opinion.. I went with work at home, a very generalized topic but they didn't have ANY work at home Lenses at that point or at the most they just had a few well hidden ones.
This works great when it comes to the fact that you are supposed to update your Lens regularly. This works negatively in the aspect of having a "topic".. a very specific topic. For instance one of the top lenses in recipes is "KFC's Secret Recipe". Well how much realistically can you write about the Colonels secret recipe? This is the part I don't understand.. what happens when you run out of things to say about a subject?
So I like the generalization just to keep it fresh... Here is what I think you are SUPPOSED to do though:
Write about something.. not in general but specifically... so NOT about Designer shoes but about Jimmy Choo shoes
Then start MANY lenses.. become a giant squid... One with Jimmy Choo shoes, One with Coach bags, One with Manilo Blahniks.. etc etc etc..
Then, LIKE a blog.. comment on other lenses.. often, join groups (like blogrolls but within the squidoo community)... comment some more.. start more lenses.. keep them all fresh (again, this is the part that dumbfounds me)...
That is what I have guessed at so far... hopefull Glitch or another squidooer can fill us in on their thoughts and opinions..
Also keep in mind to not forget your tags... and again, like a blog.. use keywords!

"making money" depends on what you mean. I use my affiliate links on my lenses so yes I am making money that way from Squidoo. You can also make money directly from Squidoo but I only have three lenses and don't spend much time trying to get exposure to them.

Please bear with me since I have a lot to learn...what are affiliate links? Then how does one get exposure to the lenses on Squidoo?

Well I had promised myself I wasn't going to "work" until Monday but you suckered me in.. I wrote a little bit about it at katieshugs.blogspot.com/ Not real indepth but you will get the idea. To put it into "squidoo" perspective.. you would create your lens and place your links and then one way to get exposure would be to include the address of your lens in your forum signatures.

Oh, I apologize for making you post in your free time. I will certainly read it. Sometime next week or after the New Year, I will open a lense. I will first read what you have say at your site. Thank you very very much.
